Introduction
Our bodies function with subtle electro-chemical messages and processes that we are only just beginning to understand. It is absolute arrogance to assert that we know these non-ionizing radiating technologies are safe.
In light of the scientific evidence, which shows serious effects at vanishingly small exposures, this assertion of safety based on scientific knowledge borders on misrepresentation; however, it is probable that a difference in how Physicists and Biologists view the Scientific Process is at the foundation of the scientific disagreement.
This difference in scientific perspective is only the beginning: impartiality has been lost because the research is currently controlled by the very Industry that is constantly reminding us that they already KNOW it is "safe." Scientists have been fired, and their research shut down, when they refused to rewrite the conclusions consistent with the wishes of the funding body, and inconsistent with the data.
Furthermore, the Federal Government that is supposed to protect the health and welfare of citizens, has empowered an agency with no Public Health background, and inadequate enforcement personnel to regulate public exposure. The FCC has itself acknowledged this, and it is evidenced by situations such as Lookout Mountain in Colorado, and Sutro Tower in California, where an Industry feeding frenzy continues regardless of Federal and Local laws.
Read between the lines. George Carlo, who headed-up the Industry-sponsored research efforts, now uses a headset with his cell-phone. And an underwriter for Lloyd's of London made international news this year when he refused to underwrite cellular manufacturers against future health risk.
It is time to quit playing politics, to quit allowing business interests to demoralize our communities, and to restore informed consent, democratic process and common sense to decision-making in important environmental health issues.
