........So much for the telecom/TV industry's concern for the 'risk'
they may be imposing on the folks at Lookout Mountain...... Deb, are
you getting any decent "media" coverage? Your report below is simply
an example of anti-science behavior...... Nothing counts but
"profits".... And the big spenders have the "lobby" to make it stick.....
(Readers, that kind of "lobby" is more than just a martini-drinking guy
who spreads $$$$$ in the legislature..... It is the impact of an
entrenched industry in the whole broad community of 'influence' --
the media, the civic establishment, the legal and public relations staff,
etc.....)

The silence of our RICH health bureaucracies is deafening......

Subject: Broadcasters testify against EMR research

On April 7, 1999, Lake Cedar Group (the broadcasters seeking to put up a
Supertower on Lookout Mt.) testified against a bill for further research
on the long term effects of broadcast EMR on people. This bill would
not even cost the State money because independent funds and grants would
be sought.
Testifying against the bill were:
   1. Roger Oden-KUSA-Channel 9-argued that ditital antenna were already
up and running in Atlanta and Wash, D.C. in more densely populated areas
and they were not causing any problems and that the FCC standards are
safe.
    2. Dr. Phillip Cole-Cancer Epidemiologist trained at Harvard and now
in Birmingham
Lab studies over the last 30 years have never consistently produced
cancer-no causative agent-20 studies-none persuasive.9 Criteria of
causality-these meet none-the research is negative. This is not a
cancer "cluster" on Lookout Mt. The CDC has looked at 108 clusters and
never found any causes.
The present RF standards are 1/50th of the amount of thermal heating.
Thermal heating is the only predicatable event. Dr. Cole admits that
the FCC standards are based on thermal. Claims that RF has been under
study for the last 20 years and an association of causation should have
been found after 5 years if it existed.
3. James Morgese-Channel 6-Public Television
Against the study because it would cause unnecessary delays in the
conversion to DTV. Would make Denver the last city to have DTV.
The bill did make it out of committee on a 7 to 6 vote. It was obvious
that the broadcasters have been lobbying.
