Subject: Cellular Providers' Strategies

Hi Roy,

Our local area is said to be in a "dead zone" for cell phone signals, but
that appears to be changing fast (as expected). In an ironic and tragic
twist, the Health & Human Services Board of St. Croix County, Wisconsin is
actually considering whether to lease space on top of a water tower at the
county Health Center (a long-term care facility for our elderly citizens)
to Aerial Communications, Inc. (The proposed alternatives are barely better!)

A question for the veterans of these battles:

Our local paper, The News (of New Richmond) quotes an Aerial real estate
specialist as saying "We are required by law to offer service that will at
least allow users to call 911 for emergencies, but with all the hills and
valleys between Stillwater and the Somerset-New RIchmond area, that hasn't
been easy to provide." Am I correct in assuming that this company
spokesman is really DISTORTING the meaning of the law (which I believe,
correct me if I'm wrong, only requires that they allow users to dial 911
free of charge IF they do provide any cellular service) for the carefully
crafted purpose of making our citizens and government officials think that
it is actually MEDICALLY NECESSARY for us to have uninterrupted cell phone
service!!!

Any thoughts on how to diffuse this propaganda would be appreciated!

Wayne
