.......Copernicus, Galileo, Darwin, Einstein -- all were called
"junk scientists" by the science "establishment"...... Dr Lai must
not feel any remorse...... He is in good company....... Besides,
service to mankind is far more important than worrying about one's
reputation in the community of public exploitation.....

Revel in it, Henry!!!! Rub their noses in it!!! The only thing that
counts is how well you are actually unraveling the mysteries of Mother
Nature...... SHE is the final arbiter, the final judge....

The "spin-master" protectors of special interest profits ... do not count
one whit in this matter.......

And, Libby, I am confident that "the world" is quite well aware of what is
happening here..... WE have seen to that!!!!!

Cheerio......

Roy:

Thank you for producing Dr. Henry Lai's paper on RF an cell phones out on
the EMF-list today.

Dr. Lai has been researching in this area since 1980. His work has been
quite revealing in showing how RF signals from cell phone can permanently
damage DNA under clinical laboratory conditions. Although he has published
these findings three times and his findings have received world wide
attention, these studies are not being replicated. Since that time, Dr.
Lai has resisted efforts by the industry to alter his findings. As a
result, he has not been paid undert terms agreed to in his last contract,
with Wireless Technolgy Research, an industry research group in the
Washington D.C. area. Subsequent research grant applications to Motorola
and other industry sponsored research groups have been denied. The federal
government is not funding any research on EMF in general in the civilian
federal health research agencies. The U.S is close to losing its abiltiy
to conduct independant research on the health effects of noonionizing
radiation.

There seems to be a deliberate effort to silence the science which does
not match the views of the telecom industry. Dr. Lai has been accused of
incompetence and of producing 'junk science". The Bioelectronics Laboratory
at the University, where he works, is within 2 months of shutting down due
to lack of research money.

When we were planning the April 10 forum in Tiburon, I contacted Dr. Mays
Swicord, who runs Motorola International Biomedical research program and is
formerly head of FDA radiological research program; Dr. Peter Polson and
Dr. Ascher Shepherd, who prepared the EIS (Environmental Impact Study) on
Sutro Tower for the San Francsciso County Health Ddepartment, Dr. Jerry
Buschberg, a healtyh phyisicist, who provides expert testimony for
telecommunications carriers and sits on the NCRB Scientific Advisory
Committee as well as other experts. I invited these experts to attend in
order to provide a more balanced program, so that citizens could come and
ask the hard questions and make their own judgements. I reminded them of
the stated interest of the telecommunications industry in educating the
general public; to dispel myths and urban legends about cell phones and EMF
exposures. I was uniformly turned down -- the reasons for not being able to
attend varried and some were due to "real world" matters, like a family
vacation. However, I also picked up the other reason, which was that these
individual were not interested in appearing in public with Dr, Lai, Dr.
Cherry, Dr. Curry, Peter Sierck, Cindy Sage, David Fichtenberg, Deb Carney,
Gordon Miller, Nancy Evans, Linda Evans, Pat Eklund or myself and respond
to questions from the general public. I think it is perfectly accurate and
fair to say that these experts did want to be subject to possible attack
out corporate controlled environment. I believe that, it this industry
wants to be viewed as a credible, responsible and accountable provider of
products and services, they should be willing to participate in an open
public forum.

We are losing our independant EMF research labs in the U.S. This is the
latest one threatened with extinction. There seems to be a calculated
effort to defund and discredit labs who do not produce the "right" science.

If the U.S. loses it's independent labs, the U.S will lose credibility in
the international scientific community and among the informed public. We
cannot make sound public policy decisions unless we maintain the capabilty
to critically and objectively produce science based on truthful and
factural reporting. Instead, we will have "manufactured" science. Our
integrity as a country is at stake here.

Do we want to see the independant EMF labs go the way of the railroad or
the land line telephone? The Bioelectromagnetics Laboratory is only one
of a few independant EMF research labs in the U.S. in operation. This is
not about finding employment for a good and honest scientist, which Dr.
Lai is, this ismore about preserving the ability to conduct good science.
The loss of federally sponsored EMF research and the independant labs will
inevitably lead to "manufactured" science that will not be trusted and.
This is not in the public interest.

If the U.S. loses it's independent labs, the U.S will lose credibility in
the international scientific community and among the informed public. We
cannot make sound public policy decisions unless we maintain the capabilty
to critically and objectively produce science based on truthful and
factural reporting. Instead, we will have "manufactured" science. Our
integrity as a country and ability to protect public health and safety
depends on citizen action. Your action. Please write your local elected
officials to ask for continued federal research into EMF/RF and ELF, and to
support the independant EMF research labs, .
