......Hey folks!! We still have an awareness of the power line aspect!!
I hope this new member has read all about the RAPID study ... including
guru's "Inertia and Malfeasance" which documents more than just the
results.......

I am posting this reply on the EMF-L list so some of the experts on the
list can comment on the feasibility of my comments on twinning the lines.

Good luck to you. As you know we were not succesful in our struggle.
However since then more evidence has piled up.

One thing you should be aware of. we have two 500 kv and two 230 kV lines
on two sets of towers quite close to each other. They put in new towers
when they put the 500 kV lines so the 230 and 500 lines are on the same
towers. When the second 500 kV line was energized the EMF readings actually
went down somewhat due to a cancellation effect. So potentially by twinning
both lines - IF IT IS DONE RIGHT - the levels may actually be able to be
reduced. Since they plan on putting the new lines considerably closer to
your homes that does not seem likely. In order for the twinning concept to
work I believe they would have to restring and reconfigure the existing
lines with the new lines - placing them in the corridor as far from homes
as possible. This may be worth pursuing but you should probably get some
independent technical advice before raising this with Manitoba Hydro.

Please keep me informed so I can include your struggle in the EMF Struggle
Around The World section. Most of the EMF news these days is about cell
towers. I do not want to see the hydro line issue become forgotten.

homes in East St. Paul, Manitoba. There is already a 500 KV line and a 230
KV line and they want to build the new line 100 ft closer to our homes.
The new line will be very close to our homes and they have future plans to
build another 500 KV line in a few years. We are urging Hydro to take a
precautionary position (since there is inconclusive evidence) and take a
different route away from the residential area or put the lines
underground. They say those alternatives are more expensive but have not
provided any comparative information.
>whyemfs -> Numerous studies show a link to cancer. Manitoba Hydro's
official policy is that nothing has been proven and they base this on 3
studies - Bailey (1994, and 1996) and Wong (1994). I have already used your
great EMF Struggles file in letters to our government ministers but I would
like to get the stats on all the worldwide studies, info on the the Bailey,
Wong studies and the cost to treat a cancer patient for a year. I would use
the cost information to challenge their expense arguments.
