Roy, I recommend that you invite Wolfgang Scherer to comment on whether any of the listed Canadian Scientists have ties to the telecommunications industry. May I ask, however, that you and others on the list realize that you can't very well expect to find experts trained in a given area if they haven't been funded by some organization in their training and/or research. I have never worked in any of the fields directly associated with this list, but I have worked for government laboratories, private companies, and educational institutions. Does this disqualify me from stating my semi-expert opinion on matters of ineterest to this list? Prior to the War, the British had a system in which "talented amateurs" (a phrase I picked up from a former boss) were allowed to pursue science through funding by wealthy patrons. In our country, this system was replaced by government agencies as being the closest to patrons without particular points of view. Of course, one never finds a completely disinterested research sponsor - so recognize that if scientific progress is to be made, it must be done in an atmosphere which tries to assure the validity of the results, regardless of the points of view of the sponsors and participants. The peer review system is the only institution that I know of which can approach assuring an objective evaluation of the results of science. -- ---- Bill P. Curry, Ph.D. |Physics is fun.
