Dear Jeannie
Earpieces do help if the phone is held at least 15 inches away from the
user's body. If the phone is in a pocket or clipped to their belt then
radiation to the body can be even worse.

Having examined a number of high-use-cellphoners (over 4 hours per day) who
are now, under age 40, retired as "unfit for future work" due to early
onset dementia, I think you son is most unwise to use a mobile for more
than about 60 minutes per day even in extreme circumstances.

If he has to have mobile communications from a vehicle then it is better to
get a proper built-in car-phone with external antenna on the roof and a
complete hands and earpiece free voice-operated talk/listen speaker system.

I know there is no proof, as yet, but I would rate over 4 hours per day
cell-phone use as potentially as dangerous as drinking a bottle of spirits
(eg whisky) per day ~ only it will damage the user's brain function rather
than kidney function, and we don't yet have brain transplants.

Good wishes
Alasdair Philips
