Roy Beavers (EMFguru) rbeavers@llion.org..............http://www.feb.se/EMF-L/EMF-L.html ................................It is better to light a single candle ... than to curse the darkness............................................... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 20 Dec 1997 23:17:14 EST From: EMFEFFECTSTo: rbeavers@llion.org Subject: Re: "A Blue World" -- Some observations and comments In a message dated 97-12-20 18:27:00 EST, you write: Roy: You last email was right to the point...good stuff!! Will copy off and send around o my net also. There are a few questions and comments to add, as follows >****I am now convinced that the most important basic judgment: that >biological interaction between EMFs (at exposure levels occurring in our >environment) and the human body (cells and tissue, glands, brain neurons, >etc.) is occurring..... is true!<< > Right on!! >>2) brain tumors (sometimes cancer), though we are not as confident about what is the "mechanism" causing the illness, we do see that it is showing>>> strong and consistent epidemiological evidence in certain work >environments<<<..... Not 'mechanism' so much as 'mechanisms'...We must be careful about citing a lot of the epidemiological "evidence", Roy...it is so loaded with bias and "confounding factors"...after all the toxins in our air, water, and food have suppressed our immune systems and affected our cell receptors, so the body cannot operate properly, it is a wonder we are not more ill than we are (maybe we are all ill to some extent, but cannot get perspective because we are in this mess together!). Based upon the usual scientific research approach, which starts a new investigation where the work has been done before, i.e., "dig the same hole deeper and deeper" or "we're looking over here. because the light is better!", a lot of research is being done (and redone), based on old paradigms of induced heat (kT factor) and radiation damage, when the recent research is pointing more and more toward an "information field" approach..combined with accumulated toxins "stopping up flow" of info to the cells. These seem to be the main biological internal stress factors...THEN you throw in our human psychological stress factors and environmental influences.....we got a hell of a mix of complex factors to consider....thus I question the use of epidemeological results alone. Artificial emf seems to be sending wrong control, action or suppression messages, confusing the biological system (which has enough problems overcoming the poisons accumulating within), thus creating stress/irritation and biological waste of energy getting the correct messages thru!! Kinda like trying to talk to someone in a high noise environment when you have laryngitis...hafta shout to get message through, and it really stresses the system. Artificial emfs, to me, seem to be part of our overall biological sensory system problems (primarily long-term subliminal messages). All living systems (at one time-- before technology) evolved/adapted into a particular environment with associated natural earth magnetic and electric fields, plus a complete spectrum of energies and vibrations. Biosystems utilized the natural energy spectrum and adapted over eons of time. Now, in just a few years, a lot of these energies and vibrations have been altered by our artificial radiations, frequencies, and gradients. And, of course, not all biosystems will be affected the same way, based on species, growth factors, location, immune system health, etc..(not even within individual species). >As I say there is good reason to suspect much more, but the research has >not been done<<. Understandable that research has not be done....it is complex, costly, involves humans and conflicts with technological interests...as you so candidly point out... >>------Dr. Becker was (is) an M.D. who got "lost" and became a scientist, in the truest sense of the word. He pursued the truth even when it led to major confrontation with the "establishment" (medical, scientific or political). He was eventually "pushed out" of the research community. I believe he is now living in retirement in New York????? When the final chapter of the EMF saga is written, Robert Becker's contribution will loom as large as any.<< Becker is in retirement in New York state. I've known him for over 25 years and helped him and his colleagues gather information for a New York State powerline legal action in the 70's (500 kV to 1 MV powerlines). >>It is my view that he should be seriously considered for the Nobel Prize for his pioneering work in the EMF field, though that was admittedly a "sideline" in his ground breaking, controversial career.<< Roy, I heard 20 years ago that he was nominated for the Nobel Prize, based on his regeneration of limbs on animals using small amounts of voltage. From this awareness he went on to point out the dangers of long-term exposure to emfs, which led to his being cut off from research funds at the VA Hospital in Syracuse NY and his eventual leaving his research there. He was, of course, ahead of his time and encountered the "kill the messanger" syndrome. He has remained active in speaking engagements around the country, but I haven't heard about him for a couple of years now. .........//snip-snip//........... 2. In "Electromagnetic Fields and Life" by A. S. Presman, Moscow USSR, Plenum Press, NY, 1970, (still one of the best books available, which told us 28 years ago what was happening that we are just now becoming aware of!!) he mentions in numerous places thruout the book experiments with animals, and humans, which indicate that an emf high frequency field near the head, will induce an increase in brainwave frequency! TVs have all kinds of frequencies and waveforms present and color TVs put out the strongest fields. In addition, the children are generally sitting too close to the screen and are watching intently what's on the screen which is inducing strong evoked brainwave potentials. Quite a mix of heavy-duty emfs and sensory stimuli, there! 3. Presman states on pg 106 "Thus, in experiments on the action of emf on malignant tumors both the nature of the observed effects and their dependence on the emf parameters indicate that we are dealing here not with the thermal effect of emfs, but with their effect on the regulatory functions in the organism and the regulation of intracellular processes.. pg 282: "An analysis of the relationship between the biological effects of emfs and their parameters and site of action corroborates the hypothesis of the informational (and not energetic) nature of the interaction of emfs with biological systems.". ..........//snip-snip//.............. 6. Note John Ott's work with effects of different colors (frequencies) of light and effects on growth of plants and people's behavior and health (using time-lapse photography). Children under fluorescent lights and who watched a lot of TV were very hyperactive. Hyperactivity disappeared under full spectrum light and increased distance from TV...except for one little girl. When they checked out her house they found a TV set on the other side of the wall from the head of her bed! With TV set placed elsewhere, the hyperactivity symptoms disappeared. With the increase in the hyperactivity of children reported in our culture lately, we are becoming a nation of addicts to Ritilin! (treat the symptom, not the cause). 7. Roy, here's a novel thought....It is known and can be shown that artificial pulsing emf fields, sounds, and lights can affect brainwave and control frequency by evoking brainwave entrainment to the particular frequencies. We already routinely use lights and sounds of low frequency to promote healing, produce relaxation, provide personal insight and produce altered states for specific purposes. Higher light, sound and emf frequencies can increase brainwave frequencies also. In biofeedback work and brainwave studies it has been shown that normally the brain produces a certain proportion of low frequencies (5-14 Hz--theta & alpha)) along with the higher frequencies (14 Hz--beta-- and higher). When a person is kept in a hyper activity state for an abnormally long time (lotsa beta and higher -- thru long-term exposure to emfs, or other stimuli) then, when the stimulus is shut off, the brain generates a lot of correspondingly low frequency delta and theta. This is down in the area where a lot of unusual consciousness stuff occurs, related to intuition and psychic states. Without going into another few pages of stuff related to what's in my files and my own research in the 60' s about effects of emf on ESP card guessing at J.B. Rhine's lab at Duke University, let us consider that there is likely going to be a lot more people, children and adults, exhibiting 'psychic symptoms' in the near future. That may shake up our culture considerably!...don't know yet if we can consider it a benefit or a hazard, will have to wait and see... Well, enough rambling thru the toxic thickets of this culture, Roy. You touched off a big burst of thought that had to get out, in spite of the holidaze and other activities I needed to do. This info you have catalyzed will be useful in some of my talks and papers in the future, so thanks for your "inspirational message". Thanks for all you have contributed to educating and helping others. Jim Beal P.S.
