Pritchett"To: "Roy L. Beavers" Subject: RE: VDT radiation exposure...... On the issue of shielding the Cathode-Ray-Tube (CRT)-based monitor; Rube-Goldberg "fixes" aren't the answer. What John Unn is asking for is a TEMPEST class machine. See http://www.atsc-usa.com/products.html http://www.tempestusa.com/ http://www.tempest-inc.com/suppliers.htm for product lists. See http://www.thecodex.com/ http://www.uni-mainz.de/~pommeren/DSVorlesung/Material/Tempest http://www.eff.org/pub/Legal/tempest_legal.draft http://www.blackmagic.com/ses/ses.html for fun & education. Encasing the VDT with foil will have to be compromised by venting the air holes so that the box doesn't overheat. Most CRTs have had shields placed around the yokes since the early 1990's to prevent exposure to the EMIs emanating from the back side of the tubes. Kits probably can still be purchased if the unit is older... John should check out the link below as a CHRISTmas gift option, since they aren' t inexpensive; Contrary to a post earlier, I don't believe (no scientific basis analyzed for my opinion yet) that LCDs give off the kind of radiation experienced from "screen burn" from CRTs. http://www.cnet.com/Content/Gadgets/Special/FlatPanel/?dd.cn Happy Holidays! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Robert L.
