Subject: Dump on Australia....... Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 085148 -0600 (CST) From: "Roy L. Beavers" <rbeavers@llion.org> To: emfguru <rbeavers@llion.org> -------------------------------------------------- ........The following attachment was forwarded to me by Kerry Christianof Australia. Has nothing to do with EMF -- or does it?? It clearly has to do with the "value system" of U.S. (global) industries when it come to concern (lack of) for PEOPLE......It is kind of interesting to speculate: what would be the reaction of Americans if this story were reversed ... and it would be Australian (or Chinese) nuclear waste to be dumped in the U.S???....... P.S., guru does not identify with the "left" organizations cited below, but "capitalists" (like the guru) need to start asking themselves about an American 'industry/government' value system that has become so "driven" by PROFIT considerations (and none other) THAT IT IGNORES PEOPLE.......The "public appearance" of that U.S. "profit" ethic as viewed by non-Americans, I suggest, is damaging to not only U.S. international "trade" but also to U.S. international 'foreign policy' initiatives, in general........guru....... I suggest that more and more Americans, too, are beginning to have doubts about such a "skewed" value system........guru....... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 17:35:42 +1100 Message-Id: <199812010635.RAA20579@vicnet.net.au> From: "Trudy Bray" To: Leftlink@vicnet.net.au Subject: LL:ART: Australia 'ideal' for waste dump Sender: owner-leftlink@lists.vicnet.net.au Precedence: bulk http://www.theage.com.au/daily/981201/breaking/ The Age Breaking News with AAP Australia 'ideal' for waste dump Australian anti-nuclear activists today expressed concern over a US promotional video advertising Australia as an ideal location for an international nuclear waste dump. A leaked copy of an American company's promotional video was given to Friends of the Earth in the UK and then passed on to Australian independent consultant on radioactive issues, Jean McSorley. The tape explains how nuclear waste can be shipped to Australia then brought by rail and buried in outback Australia. It also explains how a site would benefit the Australian economy.
