Dear Roy,

Thanks for the response to my plea for information on cellphone base stations.
I now have four epi studies showing adverse health effects at mean power
densities around 1microWatt/cm2 (excluding the Dolk studies). The NRPB
measured power densities of 2 microwatts/cm2 at 20 metres, and 0.04,0.07
microwatts/cm2 at 60 metres from a base station recently. On the basis of this
very limited information it would seem prudent to limit cell phone base
stations to say 300 metres from buildings. The bioelectromagnetics community
needs to refine these figures urgently, because masts are popping up
everywhere.

Re BEMS

I wouldn't knock BEMS. It must have been "a delicate dance of contrivance" to
maintain funding from prinicipally the very people (e.g. EPRI, DoE) whose
interests are not well served by finding positive effects from EM fields and
radiation exposure on the one hand, and make progress towards the biological
answers on the other. I think Bill Wisecup has done an excellent job over the
years, and so has Louis Slesin.

I count myself lucky that I am completely independent of any political
influences, and if there is no effect I can say there is no effect, and vice
versa! For many others this freedom has not been possible.

Best, Roger
