There is something about a one-word answer -- "YES" -- that is hard to argue with..... We need more like her!!! Thanks, Mark...... Beavers" Subject: Re: Dr. Sheila Basrur/Toronto Hi Roy, Sorry for being so late in replying: here's the update. On December 6, the Board of Health approved the Prudent Avoidance Policy recommended by Sheela (sic) Basrur. That policy would impose an output limit on cellular base stations of one hundredth of our Safety Code 6 (equivalent to FCC limit). The decisive moment in that debate came when one of the city councillors on the board said to Dr. Basrur "With all the public health concerns this city has to deal with, is this really something we need to be concerned about?" She answered with one word, "Yes." The next step was the Telecommunications Steering Committee on Thursday Dec 9. One motion was passed, which recommends the city terminate its contracts with two cellular suppliers at a municipal water tank. Many more motions were deffered, including the motion to adopt the Prudent Avoidance Policy and incorporate it into a protocol for all sitings. The Planning and Health departments are working out what that protocol would entail, with input from us, as well as the industry and government. In late January or early February, there will be a scientific "round table" discussion, and we are now trying to ensure that we have one or two of the prominent researchers present. There certainly is a news story here! If and when the city council approves the policy, it will be openly stating that the federal guideline is a joke. Sparks should fly. And, thanks to Eva, Sheela and her staff are now in possesion of the Salzburg model and the Vienna Declaration. Merry Christmas, Mark >Hi folks: > >Did this one get any follow up?.....
