Hi everybody ... and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

........Bill Kingsbury has forwarded the following recent message from
the RACHEL internet publication..... RACHEL does a fine job of promoting
environmental "awareness" causes.....

So far as I know, they have not -- however -- ever included the EMF
"Blue World" contamination problem as one of the "environmental
issues."

I make the above statement because I note a recruiting "thrust"
in their words below......

I would like to see the environmental movement in the U.S. "grow
up" and realize that if everybody in danger of environmental
exploitation takes the NIMBY attitude ... which they do (!)... then
the exploiters will continue to divide and conquer us -- the public --
at the ballot box ... and everywhere else where environmental issues are
at stake.....

I use the NIMBY (not in my back yard) expression because I think it
appropriately describes the typical environmentalist' attitude: "If it
affects ME, My ocean or My forest, then I will fight it .... if it affects
just my neighbor, then I will not **see** it...."

That is too often the public attitude we encounter in the EMF struggle as
we try to make the world aware of the consequences of a totally unmanaged
or unmonitored Blue World contamination.....

I used to contribute to Green Peace -- until I realized that the full
extent of their vision was their 'seals'...... They "see" nothing else
through their set of myopic "environmentalist" glasses.....

The fact is ... that the encroachment of that "wealthy elite" (see below)
upon the world's natural environment -- which is affecting MAN to HIS
detriment ... as well as the natural plant and animal life of the world --
is occurring because we (ALL of us) allow it to occur.....

When WE decide to reassert control of OUR government ... WE can change
that......!!

"Going along" with the **status quo** establishment nominees of the two
major political parties -- Al "the Apologizer" and "Wall Street" George --
will NOT accomplish that change.......

BOTH of our major parties are **rotten** through and through with the kind
of "going along" kowtowing to the "wealthy elite" exploiters that RACHEL
condemns below..... (We are in agreement on that!!)

But ... RACHEL should be "out there" **throwing out** the "insiders" of
BOTH parties.... Not "going along" with hypocrite's like Al Gore!!
In my opinion, he has "used" the environmental movement at least once too
many times to let him play his self-serving, two-faced game again.....
AND -- EMF activists take note -- no single individual had more to do with
the wording and passage of the 1996 Telecom Act in the Senate than did the
Vice President, Al Gore, who 'floor managed' that legislation on behalf of
the Telecom industry.....

No other political figure of the moment has a greater right to be called
"the darling of the Telecom industry" than Al Gore.....

But, RACHEL is part of the "organized labor" community.... And organized
labor -- in its way -- can be as bad as the "wealthy elite" Republicans
when it comes to an unwillingness to change -- or even challenge -- a
system that BOTH (labor and industry) have learned to become comfortable
with......

They both have their reasons for wanting to block "campaign reform." They
both see their interests served by a continuation of the status quo. They
both stand in the way of the nomination of genuine **reform** presidential
candidates -- McCain or Bradley -- because both labor and industry are
**happy** with the present system that allows them to **purchase** ...
with ease ... their own stable of politicians: e.g., a Trent Lott and
Mitch McConnell for industry; a Gephardt and Dingel for labor..... "You
buy yours ... I'll buy mine," they are saying to each other..... (There
are many others than those named......)

Al "the Apoligizer" is labor's, "Wall Street" George is industry's......
(Though ... both labor and industry are shoveling $$$$$$$ to both
parties freely......) That's the staus quo.....

The PUBLIC is not at the table......

If RACHEL should ever expect guru to join with them in the organizing
campaign they have launched below ... they must show a willingness to
"reform" (or replace) their Democrat/labor corrupt politicians -- as I
seek to "reform" or replace my corrupt Republican/Wall Street crowd......

Cheerio.....

             RACHEL'S ENVIRONMENT & HEALTH WEEKLY #680
                      ---December 16, 1999---

 MAKING THE MOVEMENT VISIBLE

The grass-roots environmental movement is largely invisible.
Thousands of groups are working at the local level but they have
no way to learn about each other's existence, and therefore no
easy way to communicate. A journalist looking for a grass-roots
perspective on environmental problems or job safety may not know
who to call. Someone concerned about policy at the state or
federal level may not be able to find anyone who can provide a
 community-based perspective on environment-and-health problems.

The RACHEL'S staff has begun a project to identify local groups
working on any aspect of "environment and health," including, of
course, occupational safety and health. We call it, Making the
 Movement Visible.

Groups that are working on any aspect of "environment and health"
at the community level are invited to add themselves to our
public database of grass-roots environmental groups on the
world-wide web (www.rachel.org). Naturally, organizations that
service the needs of grass-roots community groups or job-safety
groups are also welcome. To list your group (or some other group
that you admire), just go to the "organizations" section of our
web site (www.rachel.org) and add your group to the list. (Note:
Your listing will not become public immediately, so you may not
see it for a few days. We review all entries, to prevent fake
groups from being added to the list.) No matter where you are
working -- in Iowa, Ixtapa, or Istanbul -- if you have a
community or workplace perspective on health and environment,
please add your group to the database. Let's all do ourselves a
big favor and Make the Movement Visible! Check yourself in at
 www.rachel.org.

 MONEY RULES

Here we begin our traditional year-end review of significant
 events and trends.

One of the most important trends of the last half of the
twentieth century was the spread of democracy into many countries
that had never enjoyed it before. At the same time, democracy
within the U.S. continued to shrivel as a wealthy elite gained
increasing control. All three branches of government actively
encouraged this shift of power from "the rest of us" to the
 wealthy.

In April, the U.S. Supreme Court made it easier for the wealthy
to curry favor with government officials. The court ruled that
substantial gifts to a government official are legal unless the
official performs a "specific official act" in return for the
 gift.
