Lundquist"To: rbeavers@mail.llion.org Subject: EMF-free zones in USA Roy, I sent the following to Leif Sodergren in response to his inquiry about EMF-free zones in countries other than Sweden. - Marjorie Subject: No EMF-free zones in USA Leif, there are no designated areas of the USA where cellular telephones or other wireless telecommunication devices are forbidden to be used. It is possible that such zones might be established in future, but there are none now. On the other hand, there ARE some areas of the USA that tend to be free of these devices; the vicinity of radio telescopes is one such area. This is the closest thing the USA has to an EMF-free zone at present. There is a desire to discourage the presence of RF sources near radio telescopes, in order to avoid interfering with the astronomical signals received by the radio telescopes. So the region near radio telescopes is a "de facto" RF-EMF-free zone, even though there is no such zone designated as a matter of law in the USA. - Marjorie *************************************************************************** Marjorie Lundquist, Ph.D., C.I.H.
