Subject: MAI internet addresses (fwd)..... Date: Thu, 5 Feb 1998 101632 -0600 (CST) From: "Roy L. Beavers" <rbeavers@llion.org> To: emfguru@hotmail.com -------------------------------------------------- Hi everybody: Some of you have already received this info from Leif Sodergren.... Remember, the importance of the MAI is that it is an _industry negotiated_ international treaty which (if enacted) will allow industry to over-ride the local GOVERNMENT decisions of the local citizenry ... in such matters as environmantal law, placement of RF and MW antennas, clean air and clean water legislation, perhaps labor-law legislation, etc.... IT IS A BOLD MOVE BY INDUSTRY -- IF THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT....... In the U.S., I think it unlikely that it would ever be approved by our Senate. But!!! I believe the U.S. is NOT the target of this treaty. The target is the emerging-economic nations (as in Africa, South America perhaps Asia) where industry fears that local political decisions will slow down or prevent the rapid penetration of those economies!!!! It seems to me unlikely that any of the "advanced" economic/democratic nations would ever allow such outside control over their destiny...... Cheerio..... Guru ************ Leif - some more of that MAI information. Best wishes. Here is information for you to further your knowledge. In solidarity The MAI (Multilateral Agreement on Investment) will significantly limit the power of national, state, provincial and municipal governments. Then, it will not matter who we elect. Many people are unaware of the MAI. Others, do not know where to start to get information. Http://mai.flora.org/homepage.htm is a very good place to start. A search of the archive of approximately 3,000 messages (1 Feb 98) reveals hundreds of URLs, many in different countries, that in turn lead to more information. You can begin your search at: http://x1.dejanews.com/filter.xp?groups=flora.mai-not* See instructions below. MAI-NOT DISCUSSION GROUP MAI-NOT DISCUSSION GROUP MAI-NOT DISCUSSION GROUP 1.
