Roy Beavers (EMFguru) rbeavers@llion.org..............http://www.feb.se/EMF-L/EMF-L.html ................................It is better to light a single candle ... than to curse the darkness............................................... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 12 Feb 1998 19:40:29 -0800 From: Christopher BeaverTo: "Roy L. Beavers" Subject: Neil Cherry to Visit the United States Dear Roy Beavers: This is a preliminary announcement, however, it is worth getting the word out. Dr. Neil Cherry will be coming to the United States under our sponsorship to attend a conference on cellular antennas in the Boston area on March 14 and another conference in San Francisco on March 21. Dr. Cherry will be familiar to many of your correspondents but for those who may not know the name, after a period of educating myself on the issue of cellular and other microwave antenna exposures, such as those experienced so heart-breakingly by the families in Georgia, I consider Dr. Cherry one of the leading experts on the health effects of these exposures. I must admit, in the spirit of full disclosure, that I am one of the organizers of Dr. Cherry's visit, as well as the conference in San Francisco. I am going to do my best to organize the conference but we essentially have no money and I have no experience at organizing conferences. Perfect credentials for trying to change our national telecommunication policy. As my partner, Judy Irving, and I always say to each other: "Dare to be a Novice." Unlike PacBell's hired scientist in our area, Dr. Jerrold Bushberg, I hereby declare that I have no ties to the cellular phone industry. I will do my best to organize our conference and Dr. Cherry's visit. It may not be perfect. But Dr. Cherry will definitely be available for news and radio telephone interviews if people in other areas of the country would like to arrange them...including All Things Considered, etc. Remember the people in Georgia ... and make the call on their behalf and on behalf of your own situation to your local or national station to set up an interview. I ask everyone's tolerance if we are not as organized as a big sales conference but that's not who we are. We will do everything we can. I hope to have more concrete details within a week. We have not yet determined the exact location or schedule for the San Francisco conference, but rest assured, it will take place Saturday March 21 in San Francisco. Dr. Cherry's voice will be added to our city-wide, nation-wide, and international debate on the health and safety of microwave transmission antennas. Dr. Cherry is already scheduled to appear on Michael Krasny's wonderful show, "Forum," on public radio from KQED in San Francisco. The date is May 19th; Dr. Cherry is set for a panel that starts at 10:00. Appearing with him will be Nancy Evans, of The Breast Cancer Fund and co-producer, with Irving Saraf and Allie Light, of the feature documentary, "Rachel's Daughters." I don't know how well-distributed Krasny's show is but if it isn't, people should request it from their local public radio station. May I also say that my personal theme for the San Francisco conference is taken from the concerns of several people who recently wrote notes to your forum. I think of the conference as "Antenna Free Zones, Protecting your neighborhoods and your families from the hazards of microwave antennas." We shall see how our loosely-knit group (my favorite kind) decides to name the conference in formal terms, but that's my contribution. One final note: I always hate the part where people ask for contributions. It's like the bad news after something great, like when they tell you that high-definition tv will produce a big, beautiful picture and then, clunk, the other shoe hits the floor and you discover that this will mean amping up tv antenna exposures many times over. But, if people wish to take advantage of Dr. Cherry's visit, I would ask that they help share part of the cost of bringing Dr. Cherry to the US. Otherwise, it's a matter between me and my chargecard. I'm not complaining, honestly. I'm proud to do it, but you know how it goes...we should be as responsible for one another as we would hope the manufacturers of our electromagnetic environment will eventually become. Thank you, Roy Beavers, for lighting that one candle. We hope to contribute another candle to join with yours. Best regards, Christopher Beaver ... on behalf of the families of Noe Valley in San Francisco.
