Nevertheless, I want you to know that I think these antennas are communications links between cell base stations. My expectation is that these links replace the land lines that the telecom. companies could use to communicate between individual cell base stations - not between cell phones and base stations. I don't know the frequency of these communication links, but the size of the dish indicates either the high frequency end of the RF band or the low frequency end of the microwave band. The wavelength of an electromagnetic wave of 100 Mhz frequency would be 3 meters. If you assume that the radius of the antenna dish should be comparable with 1/4 wavelenth, you would have 0.75 meter for the dish radius - about 2.4 feet. Thus, I suspect that the antenna is for a link operating at about 100 Mhz frequency. Technically speakling, this is RF instead of microwave. You also have the advantage that the absorption of this radiation in human tissues (like gray matter) is about 1/2 the absorption of radiation with 1 Ghz frequency. Still, I think you should find out what the frequency and power of these sources are by obtaini ng a copy of the application. -- ---- Bill P. Curry, Ph.D. |Physics is fun.
