I am quite familiar with this establishment, which consists of very few people, but has very well defined and commendable aims which most of us would warmly welcome. Their web pages are worth browsing: www.loka.org Among other things, they are trying to popularize the concept of "Community Research" in the United States, based on models more commonly found in certain European countries. I have designed term projects around this concept in the course "Science, Technology, and Society" which I teach to 160+ engineering students every year. The outcome is much better than ordinary library reserch projects since students find greater meaning in what they do. Community Research is an excellent model for practical research carried out by community members towards concrete ends. The kind of research activities communities concerned about EMF hazards might undertake provide good examples of community research. (Judging what levels might be dangerous by surveying the literature, estimating the actual levels, etc.) EMF activists should certainly familiarize themselves with this concept.
