........Yes, "bare hands" work is quite impressive -- in a "hair-raising"
sense..... The company where I worked did some of it -- but it was my
impression that once they had proved their 'manliness' ... they tried to
stay away from it unless there was no other way.....

Cheerio.....

Roy,

A person at NIOSH sent out this message today:

> This past Saturday night, the History Channel had an excellent show on the
> hazards of electrical linemen in their episode of "Suicide Missions:
> Electrical Line Workers". The video covered the history of electrical
> lineman and said that 1 out of every 2 of the first electrical linemen

I also saw some of the program and found it informative. The part on "bare
hands" work where the linemen are bonded to the high-voltage lines is
particularly impressive.

Unfortunately the History Channel said nothing about the extreme EMF
exposures created by bare hands work. I've seen unpublished data that their
magnetic field exposures often exceed the 10 Gauss "Threshold Limit Value",
a voluntary exposure guideline for set by the American Conference of
Government Industrial Hygienists (a professional organization) to guard
against adverse nerual stimulation. I think that Pacific Gas & Electric has
been conducting health surveillance on these workers, but I've never seen
those results published either.
