Beavers"Cc: CG Subject: Re: (Shano) Jan 13 Panel (fwd) Dear Roy and Celine, Just a word in clarification. I agree with most of Celine's reaction to the Cape Cod Commission meeting. Peter Hall is still our Selectman. Although he and I are on opposite sides on this one issue, he is a fair man who happens to have a real blind spot on this issue. It is our Chairman, Howard Grossman, who completely stilfles democracy in Wellfleet, another Selectman, Jeff White, who at age 23 tries to come across as "in charge," and a third one, Larry Gallagher, who are the problems with Wellfleet's Board of Selectmen. Peter Valberg and John Osepchuk came across as trying to limit the discussion to physics and the "dose" issue which is a smokecreen for the growing numbers of anecdotal and epidemiological evidence that this level of radiofrequency radiation is dangerous. They ignored my question, which was how many of these stories and epi-based studies will be enough for them. Valberg also cited (and did so a few days earlier at Harvard) a study by a BU scientist, Rothberg, who has for a year studied cell phone effects on users, and the study (so far - still ongoing) shows nothing. The problem is that the study does not differentiate between analog and digital technology based phones and therefore is useless in my opinion. Osepchuk also angered many in the audience when he showed a slide photo of a place "somewhere in Europe" with a monopole in the background and a few cows in the foreground, saying, in effect, See - these cows are near this tower and are fine. (!) Osepchuk also poo-poohed the idea that studies paid for by industry would reflect different outcomes than independently financed studies (the audienced hooted at that).
