Dear Mr. Watson,

Data on magnetic field exposures to welders (including arc welders) is
summarized in the publication "QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: EMF IN THE WORKPLACE.
ELECTRIC AND MAGNETIC FIELDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF ELECTRIC POWER",
which is available on the Internet:
    http://www.niehs.nih.gov/emfrapid/html/Q&A-Workplace.html
or from the NIOSH publication office (1-800-35-NIOSH). Look particularly at
the table on p. 37, and its references on 53.

There are more papers on magnetic fields from arc welding, and I have some
unpublished data. I'ld be happy to share this if you could tell me more
about your concerns.

........Question from EMF-L.......

There was a good deal of information on this some ten years or so ago.
Not much has been heard about it since. But there is a history here
that some of our readers are likely to be able to recall.....guru....

I am looking for information specifically on EMF regarding welding machines
and their cables. Input is 575V, output 50 - 500 amps.

Also 575V input MCC control panels, electric motors also with input of
575V from 2 hp - 25 hp (?)

I am a welder by trade, working in a large sawmill here in Alberta, Canada.
I belong to the I.W.A. 1-207 ( Industrial Wood and Allied Workers of
Canada ) union, a Director on our sawmill board and the O H & R rep on the
safety committee.

I represent about 130 members most of which are surrounded by and working
in very close proximity to EMF for 10 - 12 hours per day.

I can find all types of information on cell phones, house hold appliances,
high voltage power lines but not enough on the above specifics.

Can you help?

Henry Watson
