In the US, the standard voltage is 110-125V on each of the 2 charged lines in a 3-wire system. The third line is neutral at ground potential and carries no charge. Some heavy appliances such as air conditioners, dish washers, etc., use both charged lines and thus operate at 220-250V. In Europe, the standard voltage used inside buildings is 220-250V. Also, in the US, the electrical frequency is 60 Hz; in Europe the frequency is 50 Hz. This difference produces a slight humming noise in high quality audio equipment. Hope that answers your question.
