By coincidence I was just reading a book describing experiments
conducted at a College using standard environmental chambers for the
plants, including a silent control. A variety of plants were used. The
clear result in root growth, lush growth vs early shriveling and
death, etc. showed that acid rock had a strong negative effect,
country music had no effect, similar to the silent control, and
classical had positive effects, with Ravi Shankar's east Indian sitar
music giving the most positive effects. Very interesting, as the
plants either turned towards the speaker, or away from it, with the
neutral effect showing vertical growth. Of course the speakers are
also giving off a magnetic field which mirrors the sound frequencies
(causes the sound frequencies through moving the diaphragm of the
speaker). One could develop many theories of what is the active
component, just as members of this group have been doing. It would be
a lot of work, but the various components could be tested, though it
might take years. The book I read is "The Sound of Music and Plants"
by Dorothy Retallack, DeVorss pub., 1973, ISBN 0-87516-170-7. Regards,
Karl Riley.
