Beavers" <rbeavers@llion.org> To: emfguru@hotmail.com -------------------------------------------------- .....In her comment (below) Marjorie takes note of "our" President's 'tendency' to waffle on principles......"Slick Willie" may be the only thing he comes by honestly........She might also have noted that he will need the "good will" of the Republican Congress in the event of impeachment proceedings.....But ... when it comes to the Telecommunications Bill (which was passed two years ago, long before anyone knew about Monica) ... he had no 'reason' to sell out to the BIG vested telecommunications interests...... He (and his Vice President) did so because the telecommunications industry was a major source of CAMPAIGN FUNDING!!!!!! Even if he WERE an "honest politician" (an oxymoron??), our political system -- which relies on enormous sums of $$$$$$ -- makes it virtually certain that even "honest politicians" will surrender their principles on behalf of CAMPAIGN FUNDING.........We no longer have a democracy..... We have an oligarchy which serves the $$$$$$$ ... not the 'public' interest.......It is the $$$$$$ oligarchy that has written the campaign laws which 'drive' the whole process....guru....... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 20:54:10 -0700 (PDT) From: marjorie lundquistTo: rbeavers@llion.org Subject: Re: Federalism I haven't visited any Web sites yet, but the last time I studied "government" I learned that the only thing the President of the United States can sign into law is a bill passed by both houses of Congress! The President can certainly sign an Executive Order but it is my understanding that these apply only to the Executive Branch of the federal government (which is the branch that the President heads). The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was passed by both houses of Congress and signed into law by President Clinton in February, 1996. If President Clinton is doing anything by Executive Order that affects the entire country, he must be doing it under the authority of this Public Law. The lawsuit that was filed this spring against the FCC by the Ad Hoc Committee and others challenges the pre-emption clause in the Telecommunications Act, I think (I confess I am not absolutely certain). [I have been trying to get state Attorneys General to challenge the constitutionality of the pre-emption clause in the Telecom Act for several years, but there has been no "popular demand" from the public for this, so it has not happened.] I don't doubt that President Clinton is doing something nasty to the American people; at this time, for all practical purposes, he has become a Republican! The man has no principles at all! It is an object lesson in the dangers of electing to high office a man who, above all else, wants to be LIKED! He will sell us all out to gain good relations with the current Republican Congress! -- Marjorie _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
