The private criminal action is being brought by British biologist Roger Coghill. Coghill, who runs an independent radiation laboratory in Pontypool, Wales, wants mobile phones to carry a warning that more than 20 minutes of continuous use may damage health. The magistrates court action is being taken against a local telephone store. The pre-trial review seeks to set a date for a trial hearing, Coghill said. Coghill said the mobile phone was the biggest domestic appliance source of radiation ever invented. "And we use it close to the most sensitive organ of the body," he added in a telephone interview. "There are urgent large research programmes taking place to find out how large the risk could be. Meanwhile anyone habitually using a cellphone for more than 20 minutes at once needs his head examined," Coghill said.
