That's what it was ... and what it was intended to be -- a propaganda study. (To obtain his attachment, please e-mail him direct.) Given the 'corrected' new character the Linet study has received since, in the numerous "post mortem" analyses, if NCI had any sense of a "scientific" responsibility, they would publicly withdraw it or "redefine" it in the fashion it now is recognized by the EMF community: it IN FACT, CORROBORATES earlier research (by literally 'scores' of studies) that have found a link between power line EMF exposure and childhood cancer...... That, in fact, is the judgment of the EMF RAPID group which studied it's data exhaustively and will soon be published. In the meantime, my advice to all is TALK ABOUT it!!!! Shine the light of scientific "disapprobation" on it to the maximum extent that you can..... (There is plenty of "ammunition" in the last issue of MICROWAVE NEWS.) Perhaps the shame of that exposure will make it unlikely that NCI (or anyone else) will want to try that sort of thing again...... Cheerio..... EMF: HEALTH PANEL EXHUMES REMAINS OF POWER-LINE CONTROVERSY. > Exactly one year ago the National Cancer Institute released the > results of an exhaustive seven-year study that found no link > between exposure to EMF and childhood leukemia (WN 4 Jul 97). An > editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine declared, "It is > time to stop wasting our research resources." Most government > agencies agreed, and cut funding for research. Last week, a group > of scientific experts, most of whom had staked their reputations > on such a link, sorted through the detritus and announced they > had detected signs of life. The panel, assembled by the National > Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, voted 19-9 to class > EMF as "a possible carcinogen." While acknowledging the risk to > be "quite small compared to many other public health risks," the > panel chair declared that the government should provide research > funds for serious-minded scientists -- like those on the panel. One may read the Linet study alluded to and find that 267 out of 624 ALL cases were from abodes of <0.65 milligauss. If 0.65 mG were the median for homes in the United States the probability of this distribution appearing by chance is one in 5,570. EPRI's (Electric Power Research Institute) 1000 home study determined that the United States median 60 Hz magnetic field exposure in homes is 0.5 mG. This indicates a greater than 5,570 to one probability of 60 Hz magnetic fields are causal to childhood leukemia. This physician would like to see those in the physics community explaining net current controls to our government. Such devices could eliminate most residential 60 Hz magnetic fields. Attached is a photograph of such a device on an underground rural distribution cable in Texas. Respectfully, E. Stanton Maxey, M.D. childhood leukmia. ---559023410-851401618-900077541=:28514-- Archive provided courtesy of WaveGuide, http://www.wave-guide.org Reprinted with permission of Roy Beavers, http://www.feb.se/EMF-L/EMF-L.html
