Many Thanks, Ingrid, for this info......guru..... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 3 Jul 1998 13:25:00 +0200 From: "HIGH, INGRID"To: "Roy L. Beavers" Subject: RE: hold the mail (fwd) Dear Roy, to compound your feelings even more, both Sweden and Norway up til quite recently just shut down for the month of July (usually 3 weeks), all industries did this so as to solve the problem of holidays!! - This is still a feature of holiday-placement, and shop-opening hours , and all services slow down. And of course we have a minimum of 4 weeks yearly (this is stated in law), and should take 3 weeks of it during the summer, in one go (but this is broken by many, who now prefer to spread it out). In addition many people have more holiday, with increasing age and number of years in my firm I can get up to 6 weeks here in Norway. - In Sweden I think that the minimum is more than 4 weeks now. But on the other hand free saturdays is a relatively recent phenomen. It only came in in the late 1950's in Sweden. During most of my schoolyears we had school on saturdays - half-day only; and my father worked on saturdays (again half-day only). Since we managed to get that form the anglo-saxon world, perhaps you should try to get our holidays "over there"! Another but, our general pension age is at the moment 67! - So what we get each year, we also use up after you have finished working :-) (there are people who can get it at 65, 62, but that is special). And of course we haven't at all got the weather for a long holiday in July, usually a wet and chilly month! with warm greetings, Ingrid High - Norway ---------- From: Roy L.
