Do not have a problem with networking, but DO have a problem with the
MARKEY bill.
Libby: In one of your e-mails that was forwarded to me, you make reference
to the "Washington Correspondents." Roy has tagged this label to me, which
is fine, and the designation has been broadcast to all the people on his
lists. Therefore, when you made this reference it sounds as though I wrote
or sanctioned the statements, re the Markey bill HR 3844 made, in your
e-mail. This is absolutely untrue, as you know. If you and Marija Hughes
decided this then you should have been definitive and said, "Marija Hughes
our Wash corresp....." I do not support Markey's bill, nor will I. In fact,
I'm opposing it.
Markey's bill is a ruse. He is using it mainly to win votes for himself in
Massachusetts, and for the potentialy evident democratic presidentital
candidate. Remember, Markey is and was the strongest proposent of the
Telecom of Act of 1996. You must surmise this is true, because Markey has
asked Congress to "use 5 percent of the the funds the government obtains
from leases to FINANCE RESEARCH TO BE CONDUCTED BY, no less, the FOOD AND
DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA). Imagine, the FDA conducting biological research
on the hazards of EMR. PLEASE!!!! Be real. If FDA ever wanted to learn of
the hazards of cellphones, this health and safety agency would have done so
a long time ago. When the Reynard case made headlines, the FDA merely
issued a sicky weak Talk Paper that in essence said, "No sweat, CELLPHONES
as we know them are SAFE." When I was on the radio show last year, with
Suzanne Clarke on the Massachusetts end, she and the radio host swore
Markey performed a great feat by writing 2 inquiry letters to FDA on the
hzards of cellphone emissions with respect to user injuries. Markey never
followed up on the letters. And NOW, Markey has the audacity to introduce a
meaningless bill. Since 1972, FDA has been asked to look at emissions from
VDTs. To date, it claims VDTs are SAFE. Just what do you think they'll
conclude if the agency wins Markey funding? Nothing!! Why? Because since
the very FIRST study the agency did about EMR in the workplace, ALL FEDERAL
AGENCIES have said "WHATEVER WE DO,WE MUST NOT HARM INDUSTRY." Haven't they
kept their word!? Not one single solutary federal agency has ever even
said, "We suspect there might be a problem." Markey's bill is a mere vote
getter for his, and the democartic party's, reelection bid.
Not only is the Markey bill, which I have, absolutely devious, but it is
anti-human. Industry LOVES IT. Why? Because it encourages the General
Services Administration, with whom I've worked in designing federal
communications facilities, to LEASE the rooftops of federal buildings to
COLLECT MONEY. The more antennas industry mounts, the more money GSA gets.
The more 5 percent cuts, the more money will be available to FDA. There
will be an industry run on government, almost like auctioning the
electromagnetic spectrum. Morever, remember that Markey is a close jogging
buddy of Clinton and Gore. Pres Clinton issued an executive order telling
federal agencies to allow the mounting of antennas on federal property.
Since it is not law, federal agencies (eg, the Ntl Park Service) has defied
the Order. But now, Markey who is best known for helping compensate the
"American guinea pigs irradiated several years ago without their knowledge
and informed consent," introduces a bill which CITIZENS are applauding. How
can it lose? The bill will pass Congress and be gladly signed by the
President into public law. What federal agency will dare defy the new Act,
especially when the federal government will get 5 percent from the lease of
every federal site?
In November 1997, I, and Marija testified before the Ntl Capital Planning
Commission against putting antennas on the roof of buildings in Washington,
DC. The Commission sided with citizens. Now citizens are encouraging what
we have been opposing, the installation of antennas, so that the government
can earn money to study CANCER? Yuk! The logic elludes me. The result? FDA
will never implicate cellphones or any other electronic equipment as the
causal factor of cancer! And, as a bargain industry gains siting territory
on every federal property in the nation! Now you know that, according to
the 5th Amendment, "public property cannot be used for private gain, unless
the public receives some benefit from it." The Telecom Act failed to
consider this aspect. Therefore, federal agencies had the freedom and
option to reject antennas on federal property. But Markey's bill, which has
a great chance of becoming law, will remove that cushion from federal
agencies. Since it is a Public Law that GSA can lease federal property, the
agencies must comply, especially since all is fair; the public stands to
gain from the exchange of public property for private use. How? The
government pays to conduct RESEARCH; a PUBLIC BENEFIT no matter how poorly
it is done. Since the cause of biological damage will NEVER be found,
industry will be dancing in the streets and raking in the money.
Not only is encouraging the Markey bill detrimental to activists and
citizens worldwide, but it removes the thunder from State and local
officials who have been fighting to protect citizens. Sadly, the citizens
in support of the Markey bills are those who fought hardest to free their
communities of microwave towers.
Please exclude me from this Markey support blitz. If you decide to form a
sensible national movement; count me in, otherwise no.
Roy: If you can broadcast this it would be appreciated. Thank you.
