I am in the midst of a battle involving the City of Toronto and two cell phone companies. To make a long story short, the city leased their property on the site of a municipal water tower to two cellular suppliers, without even informing the residents surrounding the lot. One set of 6 transmitters has already been built, and the second company is poised to begin construction. I live next door: my back deck is no more than 20 metres from the tower. We have garnered a lot of publicity, and have at least one local politician on our side. Tomorrow, that councillor is presenting a motion to the community council demanding that the the contracts be cancelled and recommending that the city approve a policy of "prudent avoidance." -- if they approve, it goes to the full city council. I have been invited to speak, and have already received a wealth of information from around the world, but one piece that would really help me would be a summary of cases where municipalities or other political councils have stepped in to prevent or move inappropriate cell towers. If you have any information along this line, we would really appreciate it ASAP. We'll keep everyone informed of our progress. Thanks in advance.
