......Yes, Joanne, you are basically correct in the point you are
making...

......Has anybody else noticed the **fanaticism** that is being
displayed by "our" government ... directed against the people ...
because we demand objectivity on the part of the government ... as well
as an honest effort to look out for OUR interests ... NOT the special
interests???

......You may recall that in my first message after returning from Long
Beach I referred to the "desperation" I sensed on the part of the vested
interests (which includes at least certain elements of our
government)..... It's there all right..... You can FEEL it in the
Liburdy matter.....

......The New York Times should feel shame for its role in promoting that
desperation.....

......The fact is: the government (however reluctantly) has acknowledged
the EMF hazard..... The vested interests are DESPERATE to turn the
public's attention away from that fact..... Thus, the Liburdy story......

......Cheerio.....

Hi Roy - Did the "anonymous" Federal investigator quoted by the N.Y.
Times mean to imply that Congress authorized the EMF-RAPID Program in 1992 at
a cost of some $46 million dollars of OUR money based solely on TWO reports
by Dr. Liburdy????? Talk about irresponsible and unclear reporting!!!!!

I think the NIEHS should issue a press release reiterating their EMF RAPID
conclusions regarding childhood leukemia and occupational adult leukemia
adding they (NIEHS) have also found some "interesting" and "novel" findings
in regard to ELF EMF's and neurodegenerative diseases and cardiac diseases
(associated with heart rate variability. They should live up to their
finding of the need for "....continued emphasis on educating both the public
and the regulated community on means aimed at reducing exposures."

In order to "cover their ____'s" in regard to the apparent decision by
Congress to take on such an exhorbitant, time-consuming project for the
reasons cited by the N.Y. Times, the NIEHS might mention that Dr. Liburdy and
his associates contributed to four out of the 320 references cited in the
NIEHS report on Health Exposure to Power-Line Frequency Electric and Magnetic
Fields which was completed in May of 1999. Three papers refer to EMF
effects on tamoxifen in regard to breast cancer and brain cancer and one
paper refers to EMF effects and melatonin in breast cancer. The NIEHS should
also state the papers were prepared in 1993, 1987 and 1998 and "have nothing
whatsoever to do with ALLEGATIONS in news reports that Dr. Liburdy
misrepresented some of his findings in 1992."

To "reassure" people like me who live too close to the high voltage power
lines to be able to REDUCE our exposure to ELF EMF's, the NIEHS should also
add to their press release that "the World Health Organization will review
this matter in 2003 and that the NIEHS is a partner in this process.........."

Take care -- Joanne
