For what it's worth, Ginny, the vast majority of conventional doctors are
using inadequate tests in their evaluation of thyroid function, and are
giving only one of the -two- thyroid supplementation forms that may be
required. That second fact could be at the root of "not able to tolerate
thyroid medications" -- it might prove that the functional hypothyroidism
in these cases is crying out for the -other- supplement.

According to Dr. John Dommisse in Arizona, these tests should be
specifically requested -- note that they are not the same as what most
doctors and labs are thinking of as "a thyroid panel": Free T3, Free T4,
and ultrasensitive TSH. Dommisse advises he would then prescribe whatever
combination of Synthroid and Armour Thyroid is required in the individual
case to bring -both- Free T3 and Free T4 into the upper half of their
normal ranges. (What's likely is that the doctors are measuring only one
of T3 and T4 directly, and then are prescribing only Synthroid.)
