We won this initial skirmish, folks! I got information from Tedianne's
husband, made estimates of the radiation density expected in the Kling's area,
refered them to John Goldsmith's studies on cancer from the Soviet irradiation
of the US Embassy (8 microwatts per square centimeter) and from broadcast
facilitites (with due regard for the difference between cell phone radiation
and radiation from FM and TV broadcast sources and the difference in its
absorption by human tissues) and I quoted the results of the Lookout Mountain,
Colo. study showing 5 brain cancers (mostly fatal) in a population block of
nearly 1800 at a radiation level averaging about 3 microwatts per square
centimeter. In addition, I told them of the property assessment devaluation
that occurred in North Barrrington, Ilinois (about which, Mark had given me a
newspaper article). Mark's help was also invaluable in bringing up additional
arguments the Klings could use, and Libby helped give them moral support and
went with them to the hearing. They used our work in their presentation and
in handouts. Thanks again to all of you, and thank you, Jan for referring
Teddianne to me. Tell Cathy Bergman about this, if you think appropriate. The
Klings may call on us again, if the forthcoming city council meeting goes
against them. Do you think we should put this news out on the Beavers network?

Bill:

We were successful tonight in getting hte Napa Planning Commmission to deny
the permit applicaiton. Sprint can appeal to the City Council, however.
About 20 neighbors went - the Klings did an excellent job. They had a
handout package with a map on the top - very professional. When we drove
back to their house we were told that the neighbors who stayed home and
watched on TV - went outiside and whooped! Very gratifuying. Your
materials were very helpful to us - Teddianne and I referred to hem and
they were in the handout as well. It was pretty clear this town is not
happy with cell towers and antennas.
