Dear Roy,

I found your web site via information forwarded to us from Glastonbury
against masts, I would like to join your mailing list.

I live Coldstream a small town in the Scottish Borders (population 1746),
Vodafone have recently erected two masts(one transmitter-one receiver)
and two dummies(supposed to look like four flagpoles HA!) on a clock
tower very close to our homes-with the owners permission in return for a
fee of course(he is a former councillor-shouldn't he know better?)

We wrote to vodafone asking them to come and hold a public meeting and
to postpone going live until after the IEGMP report -they sent us six
health and safety booklets, so we telephoned and a nice man in operations
said he knew Coldstream, he "couldn't understand why they'd chosen this
option it would be an eyesore he would send someone to look at possibly
relocating them- but we should have known it was too easy!

We were then passed to a super efficient lady in the EMF office( the
press office told us she had recently joined vodafone and must have a
good track record to have been appointed) who was working on some figures
to reassure us- only every time we asked a question the answer was the
same,"I'm sorry I don't have that information but I will try to Find out
and get back to you"' a month later and she must be still trying to find
out- you wouldn't believe no one in operations or EMF at vodafone know
the date that these masts are due to go live, what do they get paid
for(apart from fending off people like me?)

Anyway they refuse to hold an open meeting Ms efficiency said-"there is
no point in me standing in front of a room of people" and she doesn't see
any point in waiting until after the IEGMP report she doesn't think there
will be anything in it to make any difference.

So we've been to the local paper (we've had a weekly front page spot the
past few weeks-I'm sure we can keep that up) we went to the local T.V.
and told them we'd chain our selves to the scaffolding and phone the Sun
if need be- so they've had the scaffolding taken down.

Vodafone are coming to meet with our MP and a couple of representatives
on Monday 27th. We don't think we've been unreasonable, we don't mind
them putting up masts in the area we just want them to take a
precautionary approach and keep them out of the town as other companies
have -they have put theirs up on the outskirts of the town.

We would be extremely grateful for any information that may help at our
meeting- we have a pre-meeting on Friday

Janette Sim
