Julio asks about the method of "membership" in ICNIRP and the NRPB?
There are others on the list who are better able to answer than I.
But I
do believe that I am able to make the important point: namely, that
the
persons who serve in those capacities have been selected (yes,
"finger-
pointed" by the existing membership) by virtue of their "professional"
status in the science/technical community.
These "professional" institutions just naturally tend to be dominated
by the industries that employ these professionals and fund these
sceintific/tecnical institutions, which in turn "define" the
standards, etc.,
of the profession. (You do not see that so much in the case of lawyers
or doctors -- but it is "the norm" in the case of the engineering and
"scientific" institutions.)
The important point is, of course: that public interest is NOT
represented
in the process -- other than on a very artificial and pro-forma
basis!!!!!
May I say -- frankly -- that those foreign governments (not to exclude
the U.S.) which accept without an "independent look" or even "without
question" the decisions of such heavily conflict of interest
"professional bodies" are
doing their constituencies a GREAT DISSERVICE!!!!!! Such
governments are leaving the fate of public health and safety in the
hands
of the most biased and the most powerfully vested interests that they
could choose...... Such governments are either grossly stupid or
simply
don't give a damn!!!!
