........From EMF-L.......

Here is the NRPB WHITEWASH of the EMF/power lines issue --
in spite of the fact that they DO admit an association with
the incidence of childhood leukemia that is TWICE the norm!!!

Other than that -- it reads like the same kind of WHITEWASH
Americans were given by the NIEHS on the notorious RAPID
study. (See guru's "mission statement" at: http://emfguru.com)

Citizens of the World: Your 'Western Democracies' -- the heritage
you were given by the likes of John Locke, Voltaire, Patrick Henry,
Thomas Paine and Jefferson -- have been taken over by HUGE
corporate special interest$$$.

The freedoms you are losing (have lost) in the matter of
preserving public health and safety (EMF is but one case in
point) ... are but the "down payment" you are making for the
eventual loss of ALL your freedoms.

Wake-up!!! The likes of Elizabeth Whelan, Sir Richard Doll,
Motorola, Monsanto, General Electric, etc., are taking more
from you than your health...... They are taking your life
and liberty.....

Cheerio........

NRPB Advisory Group on Non-ionising Radiation
Power Frequency Electromagnetic Fields and the Risk of Cancer
After a wide-ranging and thorough review of scientific research, an
independent Advisory Group (chairman: Sir Richard Doll) to the Board of
NRPB has concluded that the power frequency electromagnetic fields that
exist in the vast majority of homes, are not a cause of cancer in general.
However, some epidemiological studies do indicate a possible small risk of
childhood leukaemia associated with exposure to unusually high levels of
power frequency magnetic fields.
The Advisory Group on Non-ionising Radiation (AGNIR) has published its
report ELF Electromagnetic Fields and the Risk of Cancer today*. It looks
at work published since its first major review of the topic in 1992 and
supplementary reports in 1993 and 1994. The report contains detailed
reviews of
o sources and measurements of electromagnetic fields
o biological studies on cells relevant to cancer induction
o animal and volunteer studies relevant to cancer induction
o epidemiological studies on domestic exposure to electromagnetic fields
o occupational exposures
The main conclusions of the report are given below.
Laboratory experiments have provided no good evidence that extremely low
frequency electromagnetic fields are capable of producing cancer, nor do
human epidemiological studies suggest that they cause cancer in general.
There is, however, some epidemiological evidence that prolonged exposure to
higher levels of power frequency magnetic fields is associated with a small
risk of leukaemia in children. In practice, such levels of exposure are
seldom encountered by the general public in the UK. In the absence of clear
evidence of a carcinogenic effect in adults, or of a plausible explanation
from experiments on animals or isolated cells, the epidemiological evidence
is currently not strong enough to justify a firm conclusion that such
fields cause leukaemia in children. Unless, however, further research
indicates that the finding is due to chance or some currently unrecognised
artefact, the possibility remains that intense and prolonged exposures to
magnetic fields can increase the risk of leukaemia in children.
The report also makes recommendations for further research.
A response to this report has been issued by the Board of NRPB (R3/01).
