You may be interested in my concerns over British Telecoms proposal to build
a 20 metre high mast near to Portreath, Cornwall, UK. This mast will be for
the Terrestial Trunked Radio system; the BT Airwave project. I understand
that this system, that is to be used by the British emergency services and
the MOD, is up to 100% more powerful than current cellphones and their masts.
The mast is to be sited some 50 metres outside a country park designated as
such because of its wildlife and natural beauty and some 100 metres from the
nearest residential property. The location is also on the AONB boundary and
will breach the county structure plan. It is also my understanding that this
will be the first such operational mast in Th. UK. I would be interested in
your views. I have looked at a considerable amount of information on MER,
most of which concerns cellphones. I have been in contact with Dr. Cherry who
has been very helpful. But it appears that very little is known about the
TETRA system and it would seem it could have an even greater effect on
health, wildlife and the environment than cellphones. The system radiates at
17Hz pulses and transmits and receives from 380MHz to 425MHz. I understand
that BT and the UK government plan to erect at least 19 towers in Cornwall
alone and as the system has a range of 18 Kms and does not work well over
hilly terrain they plan to erect a large number of these masts all over the
country. I look forward to hearing your views.

                                  Best Wishes,

                                 Paul Huddleston
