Subject: Industry is not all bad (fwd)

Roy: Borrowing this subject title to make a comment about the NCI study and
Viagra. Not so strange bedfellows as may initially appear. Members of this
network have referenced "electric blankets, electric appliances, video
games and other such things. But the NCI study also pinpointed "VDTs (ie,
computer PCs) and televisions on which games are played" as proabable
sources of electromagnetic fields (EMFs). The researchers concluded that of
"everything tested, electric blankets were closest to the body. Therefore,
people would remain the the EMFs longer. For that reason they issued a
caveat about electric blanket use. But said, "EMFs from every other
appliance is harmless because people are in the field for only a little
while." The media has deliberately omitted industry's high-tech appliances
(eg, VDTs, computers) from their write-ups for obvious reasons; public
uproar. If people thought VDTs were harmless they would not order filter
eyesavers and other gadgets to ease pain while working on computers.

Asked an official at an agency that funds NCI cancer research why National
Institutes of Health would permit NCI to study EMF and proclaim it safe.
NCI has never in its entire existence touched EMF research. They claimed it
ridiculous; only ionizing radiation causes cancer! But now they tie EMFs
associated with non-ionizing radiation with cancer to say EMFs are benign.
Answer from the funding agency: "NCI probably did so to declare once and
for all that EMFs are safe. So the government is wasting money funding such
research. Stop pursuing EMF research, and give the money to cancer research
so we can find cures!"

[This is my analysis, also!!!!!! Read on!!!!!!....guru]

How many newspaper articles have we seen lately
about cancer cures? What the official from this agency said makes sense.
This is the time of year when researchers win or lose federal funds. NCI is
ensuring its stakes. [turf!!!!...guru] I believe this is what this
network should be looking at, not NCI's proclamation that we know is
ill-founded.

Friday (May 8), I'll be attending an advisory meeting of the Department of
Energy (DOE). The public can speak at the end of the session. I will. I
generally don't attend meetings as a spectator. That is a waste of my time;
nothing to gain.

Comments, and WARNING, on VIAGRA the impotence pill. FDA's approval of this
aphrodiziac has turned sane folks into raving or ravenous people. This sort
of reaction makes me suspicious. I reasoned that if it makes old men
virile, the drug must affect the blood and circulatory system. So I
obtained the manufacturer's (Pfizer Inc) product data. VIAGRA stands for
sildenafil citrate). Sildenafil (not in dictionary, practitioner's
reference guide) may be derived from herring (sild). Whatever. Among other
things, the drug consists of the active ingredient sildenafil citrate,
microcrystalline cellulose, calcium phosphate (enegy of muscles), sodium,
magnesium methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, lactose, aluminum lake FD & C
blue #2. The tiny print on the yard long, double sided manufacturer's
information sheet describes clinical studies and cautions users to have a
thorough physical before using the drug. Why? Isn't Viagra a wonder drug?
It's made every newspaper. Business Week has glaring headlines on it.
Pharmacisits are saying they are developing carpal tunnel from writing so
many prescriptions! Since it's so popular, I think it is proper for to
discuss this tintilating newsy wonder drug.

VIAGRA side effects that no one discusses? Per the manufacturer, among the
things VIAGRA taken by men can cause are: high blood pressure, massive
coronary, headache, flushing, dyspepsia (indigestion, gas), abnormal vision
(color blindness, detached retina), diahrrea, dizziness, rash, nasal
congestion, urinary tract infection, back pain, respiratory tract
infection, flu syndrome, anemia, leukopenia (low white blood cells), rectal
hemorrhage, bone pain, tendon rupture, asthma, herpes, sweating, skin ulcer,
cataracts, tinnitus (tinging ears), eye pain, photosensitivity,
esophagitis, temor, insomnia, vertigo, bronchitis, cystitis, abnormal liver
functions, frequent urination, enlarged breasts, genital edema and
anorgasmia (inability to reach orgasm), accidental falls, systemic pain,
chills, shock.

Sorry; had to stop. Getting writer's cramp. This is only a partial list of
biological reactions. VIAGRA has been found in the semen. Therefore, the
drug can be transmitted to the female. A pregnant female, according to
manufacturer, may not fare wall. Imagine a man with ES or any other problem
VDT users have taking VIAGRA. According to the manufacturer, the higher the
dose, the worse the side effects. What will become of people in this
high-tech era? Did NCI defend EMFs to allay the fears of VIAGRA users,
which affects the entire body and and kill the user? Why would FDA, which
approved and vows for the safety of VDTs, approve such a dangerous drug?
The public is gullible. What will make people listen to reason? Common
fellows restrain yourselves. We want you just the way you are. [That's
reassuring!!!!!!!...guru]

All the best.

Bert
