Dear Roy, having lived in Norway for the period of her premiership, and during part of that time having been involved in the anti-amalgam-movement, constitute perhaps a basis from which I ought to be able to say some words. But they are only from a peripheral inhabitant in the country :-) She is a medical doctor by profession and a professional politician (social democrat) by career, and has never shown any indication to believe in anything related to health which has not been accepted by the general medical establishment. She is definitely trustable and I would say uncorrupted, but don't expect wonders. The labour politician who took over after her had some trouble inside the party after he went public with information that the only thing which had helped him from a severe illness was homeopathic treatment, to judge from the newspapers also from her (but on the other hand he was also talked about as her "crown-prince"). It is first after she left the premiership here that the amalgam-question has been taken more seriously from the politicians and bureaucrats; during her time the health authorities were asked to make a report on it, but were given no money for anybody to do the job. Now they have both got money for a strong committee to do that report, as well as for another comittee to go through the emf-question. But I can't speak from the emf-organisation since I am not a member there. She has for instance talked strongly in favour of the importance of big and comprehensive vaccination programs - a question much under discussion too. The one thing I would say though is to send letters and information to her. We are doing that as to the dangers of amalgam, and how we think that WHO ought to get involved. At least there is a possibility with her. with warm greetings, Ingrid High ___________________________________________________________ From: Roy L. May 1998 01:43 If anyone "out there" knows Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, it would be nice if someone who understands the "EMF problem" could talk to her before Repacholi does. He will "poison the well." ...[guru] 03:27 PM ET 05/11/98 Incoming new chief pledges change at ailing WHO By Elif Kaban GENEVA (Reuters) - The incoming chief of the ailing World Health Organization promised a policy of transparency as the U.N. agency's top body met Monday to chart a course for the future. Gro Harlem Brundtland, a physician and three-time Norwegian prime minister, vowed to ``go in there and make a difference'' at the WHO, which diplomats say is in urgent need of a shake-up. ``There is a lot to be done. There has to be transparency,'' she told reporters as the plenary World Health Assembly started a week-long meeting with all 191 member states of the WHO. Brundtland -- who was nominated for the top job in January and takes office from July 21 -- becomes the first woman director-general of the WHO when the body formally elects her Wednesday. She is to hold the position for or five years. .... snip ....
