Beavers" <rbeavers@llion.org> To: emfguru@hotmail.com -------------------------------------------------- Hi everybody: Marj is about 'half' right in her charges against the Republicans below.... In fact, BOTH parties, including the President and the Vice President (Gore, who was the "floor manager" of the bill for the Democrats!!!) kept falling over each other in their haste! to prove that EACH was the best friend the telecom industry had..... With the possible exception of the banking and/or energy industry, telecom is consistently (year in and year out) one of the biggest contributors of "soft" as well as "hard" money ... to BOTH parties..... One thing I'll say for the consistency (honesty???) of the Republicans is that they take more money from tobacco than from any other source... You may have noticed ... the tobacco legislation is now stalled (in both houses). But telecom comes close -- with the difference being that they fund BOTH parties..... As do virtually ALL the "big spenders" in Washington...... I believe it is futile to blame either party more than the other ... so long as we have the campaign contribution system that we do. That was what Senator Eagleton was trying to tell us also, remember last weekend's message??? Cheerio..... P.S. If you get a chance to vote for a third party cancdidate -- I hope you will seriously consider the virtue of that choice. I would LOVE to have third party choice this year. Neither of the existing parties is worth the 'powder' it would take to blow them to hell.......| Roy Beavers (EMFguru) rbeavers@llion.org..............http://www.feb.se/EMF-L/EMF-L.html ................................It is better to light a single candle ... than to curse the darkness............................................... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 11:49:31 -0700 (PDT) From: marjorie lundquistTo: "Roy L. But it was Congress who passed the Telecommunications Act of 1996, with its pre-emption clause (which I think is unconstitutional), who essentially handed American citizens over to the telecommunications companies en masse to be treated as experimental animals! In fact, because the Republican Party railroaded the vote on this Act through Congress, not even allowing an opportunity for the bill to be read by those who wwere voting on it, I have been wondering whether the Republican Party could be sued for damages by the people of the USA! Every member of Congress takes an oath of office (like the President does at his inauguration) in which s/he swears to defend the Constitution. What the Republican Party did with the Telecom. Act could be construed as conspiring to persuade members of Congress to violate their oath of office! I'm not sure what the legal offense is -- maybe treason? sedition? -- but I feel fairly sure that some offense was committed by the Republicans, and I would sure like to see them held accountable! One other point along these lines: the Jan/Feb. 1996 issue of Microwave News reports (page 13) that a class action lawsuit was filed in Chicago, IL, against Ameritech Mobile Communications; the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association; Epidemiology Resources, Inc.; Motorola; and Wireless Technology Research, alleging that the cellular phone industry is conducting human testing on the health effects of mobile phones without the knowledge and consent of the human guinea pigs. I'm not sure what the current status of this case is, but it is certainly an attempt to hold this industry responsible for treating the consumer like a test animal in an experiment!-Marjorie ====================================== ---"Roy L.
