Hi everybody:
.......The item below reads like a press release by ABC News, the
FDA and a certain commercial product.....
The story is O.K. -- but its wrong ... in a number of points ... and
**questionable** in others.....
First, it's wrong to give the credit to ABC News for breaking the
story on the Carlo letter..... If you will check on guru's website,
you will see that we printed the whole letter here -- on EMF-L --
four (4) days before the ABC story..... Libby Kelley sent us the
letter ... and guru was so uncertain about its authenticity (at first)
that he held up the publication here by at least 24 hours.....
Second, the FDA is trying (now) to "look good." According to the story
below, they had "proposed" a collaborative effort with the CTIA
(Cellular Telephone Industry Assocaition) ... prior to the Carlo (ABC)
expose.....
So what!!! Proposals are a dime a dozen..... Easy to come up with
"after the fact." And ... most important of all ... ANY collaborative
effort between the FDA and "the industry" should hide its head in shame..
.....
There has been entirely TOO MUCH of THAT KIND of "collaboration" in this
EMF saga already..... If the FDA is going to do any "crowing" -- tell
'em to crow about the collaboration they are doing with their CLIENT --
the PEOPLE.....!!!! Haven't seen anything like that, have we????
America's RICH Health Bureaucracies not only do NOT collaborate WITH the
people ... they don't even work FOR the people..... They're too busy
... working FOR their "conflict of interest" industry benefactors.....

Third, the remainder of the long "article" below is actually a not-very-
well disguised "pitch-man's ad" to "sell" the reader on a claimed
protective device against exposure to EMFs in various forms.... The
"device" is based upon a highly questionable "theory" of "neutralizing"
the electromagnetic exposure..... It's claims of having been "proved" in
a double-blind experiment has never been independently replicated.....
To my knowledge.
I do not forward this to endorse it -- nor do I place any credence in it
-- but I do feel that all "possibly" worthy ideas should have their day
"in the light....." To those good, regular, loyal readers who may want to
"erupt" at this publication ... guru says: This item has a right to be
published here on EMF-L.......

Cell Phone Health Risk Exposed On ABC's 20/20

Dr. George Carlo, leading EMF scientist and former cell phone industry
advocate, first blew the whistle on the dangers of cell phones October

to suffer from brain cancer and rare tumors than non-users.
ABC's nationwide broadcast last October resulted in immediate responses
from the FCC, FDA and the cellular industry (CTIA). Despite accusations
that the health effects of cellular phone radiation are being withheld
from consumers by the cellular industry and the government, the FDA
proposed a collaborative project with CTIA to investigate this issue.
Producers at ABC's 20/20 plan to re-air this groundbreaking story this
Friday May 26, 2000.
When cell phones first came out they were simply assumed to be safe and
never tested for health risks. However, when held to the ear up to 60%
of the cell phone's EMF emissions penetrate the skull and are absorbed
by the user's brain. When tested in the laboratory, ABC's Brian Ross
found every cell phone tested exceeded the Federal Communication
Commission's SAR (specific absorption rate) standards when held in
certain positions. Despite repeated request by consumer advocate groups
calling for label warnings, cell phone manufacturers still refuse to place
consumer SAR information on their products. While the cell phone industry
continues to deny any health risks associated with their products, the
Food and Drug Administration maintains more research is needed and has
advocated the practice of prudent avoidance until further testing is done.
With 80 million cell phone users in North America and 300 million cell
phone users worldwide, the potential for a global health disaster has
never been more apparent.
Informed consumers aware of the alarming scientific evidence and the
