.......I am forwarding this to the full list -- because (as many of
you know) this is a subject that is now in a state of flux.....
Recent changes in some European countries -- other changes appear to
be in progress.....  (Japan recently made a change that makes no
sense to me at all....???)

Laurie, here is some "quick and dirty" background info:

Throughout most of the history of the "electromagnetic age," **nations**
did not write ANY such regulations.....  It was simply left up to the
industries.....  The industries, of course, never saw (still don't see
"very well") any "non-ionizing hazards" -- so, their "standards" never
addressed that aspect....  We (world society) are still very much in
the process of coming out of that era.....  You can be sure:  INDYSTRY
will be the LAST to see any problem in what they are doing....

Now, governments all over the world are beginning to take an INDEPENDENT
(correction -- "somewhat" independent) look at the subject.....  Still,
they are **wedded much too closely to the 'industry viewpoint'** as this
process advances.....  I believe that the best thing you and your
congressman could do -- would be to acquaint yourselves fully with what
is now taking place in Britain......  Read my editorial on my homepage
(about the Sir William Stewart IEGMP Group) ... and take it from
there.....

Others may want to respond to this.....  I hope they will (about the
activities in their country)....

Janet Newton suggested I contact you. I am chair of Community Advocates
for the Saddleback Hills in West Baldwin, Maine (US) - and we have been
battling a TV broadcast tower proposed for our neighborhood for the past
two years. We are trying to pressure our congressional rep - Tom Allen -
to support funding for RF research. He is considering the issue, and is
particularly interested in the gap between US and European safety
standards. Do you have an up-to-date list of these standards or at
least, a few of them - that we could forward to him? Your help would be
much appreciated!
