........I'm sure that all of you know -- there are many examples of
good government ... of democracy at work as it is **supposed** to
work ... in America today......  (In spite of the "ranting and raving"
of the guru on these pages.......  Actually, you should also have
noticed that much of that "r and r" is directed at the **federal govt**
congress and the White House.....)

Anyway, Kathy has sent us a nice little message below which restores
some balance.....  She found a "good quality" local government and
decided to buy land there.....

In my utility work days, I used to be very much involved in "economic
development" -- the promotion of economic growth in communities served
by the utility.....  One of the things I learned during those years
is that "economic" development is the wrong word.....  The word
should be "community"!!!  When you build a "good community", good 
government, honest community administration, much attention to
what causes people to WANT to live in your community -- "quality of
life" services like schools, parks, etc. -- then the "economic"
development naturally follows......

REAL democracy starts at the local level!!!  And America still has
it there.....!!!!  (Written by a Main Street Republican.)  That is
also why the recent Supreme Court decisions (which are telling the
Washington crowd to get there "grubby hands" OUT of local America)
... are so important......  It seems, we CAN still trust the court
system.....  It's just the congress and the White House we can't 
trust....

Kathy's short note below made me think of that.....

Hi  Roy: 

Penn Twp. (mentioned in this article) as you may recall, is my client.
I sent this case to you before I joined the list.  Some day, when time
permits, I will bring you up to date on this case.  I will be testifying
there next week on another case.  Penn Twp. is my neighboring
municipality.  I recently purchased 11+ acres there I was so impressed
with the elected officials, mgr., Greg Primm, zoning officer, Larry
Moore and solicitor, Phil Lope.

Thanks to Dr. Brown for the article.  I faxed it over to Penn Twp.
today.
