In response to an e-mail from Joe Bowman, I sent him information about
the rather informal measurements I took in a couple of supermarkets and
a building supply company.

The gun held scanners I measured do not produce ELF magnetic fields.

The supermarket scanners exposure the checkers to between 3 mG and 35
mG, depending upon the model.  I believe that the magnetic fields are
produced primarily by the motors responsible for the movement of the
conveyor belt and the movement of the scanner itself.  Probably the
reason for the differences is placement of the motors.

I have tried unsuccessfully so far to get funds to study breast cancer
among supermarket checkers.
