Beavers" Subject: Re: EMF/chemical connection?? (KampP.. Hi Roy, To the best of my limited knowledge: Electrical and electronic devices commonly include circuit boards and/or coils and transformers. Circuit boards and non-enclosed coils and transformers are often (usually?) coated with an insulating varnish that is often (usually?) made from TUNG OIL -- at least this was common several years ago, and it may still be the case. When electronic circuits and electrical coils and transformers are in operation, they generate heat, and this heat slowly evaporates the tung oil, which is a neurological toxin. New electrical and electronic devices may off-gas toxic tung oil vapors when in use, if tung oil varnish is present, with the rate of evaporation slowly decreasing over time, as the volatile fractions dissipate into the user's building or vehicle for assimilation by all living organisms present. Sensitive people would be well advised to purchase and use 'aged' (pre-owned?) electrical and electronic equipment, IF the equipment produces heat and contains tung oil varnish -- or to hermetically seal (or specially ventilate) any such new electr. equipment -- or suffer the consequences. Does anyone have more information about tung oil, and the current extent of its usage in electronics ? Bill K. ----- Tung-Oil Tree / Aleurites fordii Hemsl. / Euphorbiaceae ----- from: http://www.freehomepages.com/bhcof/abt.htm About tung oil Tung Oil is pressed from the nuts of Tung tree is known also as China wood oil and nut oil. Major producing countries are mainland China (Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan) and South America (Argentina and Paraguay), United States and Africa. The largest application for the oil is paint and varnish, and also wide utilized by soap, inks, electrical insulators. ----- from: http://www.drjgoldstein.com/books/limbic/limbicintro.html Chronic Fatigue Syndromes: The Limbic Hypothesis by Jay A. Goldstein, M.D. Euphorbia, a plant that produces phorbol esters, which are oncogenic by virtue of stimulation of protein kinase C. Tung oil present in sealants and varnishes is made from Euphorbia and has been proposed as a causative agent for chronic fatigue syndrome. Protein kinase C also produces long-term depression of synaptic efficiency and may be implicated in the encephalopathy of CFS. ----- from: http://www.ny2aap.org/npsherbs.html Lin T-J, Hsu C-I, Lee K-H: Two outbreaks of Acute Tung Nut poisoning Clin Toxicol 1996:34:87-92. "TUNG NUT" (Aluerites fordii, Tung oil tree, Chinawood Oil tree) is distributed in SW United States, Taiwan, mainland China, Japan and India. Traditionally prescribed for constipation, erysipelas, skin burns and scabies, and many other ailments. Onset was 42-121 minutes faster in the younger children. The manifestations include vomiting up to 10 times, abdominal pain, diarrhea, muscle weakness, dizziness, fatigue, sore throat, headache, chilly, sweating and tremor. Hyperglycemia was reported in 7 cases up to 394 mg/dL. ----- from: http://www.freehomepages.com/bhcof/msds.htm MSDS -- MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET Trade Name: TUNG OIL/CHINAWOOD OIL Special Hazard Precautions: ACUTE & CHRONIC: STORE BETWEEN 70-90F.
