Hi everybody:

This will be a "light" message offering a suggestion for your holiday
movie-going.

In America, we are in the middle of our long four-day holiday, called
Thanksgiving. As you know it is a time of feasting, football-watching
and (for some) movie-going. It is at about this time of the year that
some of the best films of the year appear in our movie theaters ... to
take advantage of the holiday "mood" of the public and to get the films
on the marquee in time to be considered for the annual Academy Award
nominations....

Guru is definitely not much of a "movie-goer," maybe two or three per
year on average. Hollywood's perception of the world anymore is so
distorted -- (It seems to be aimed at the level of a ten year old who
knows nothing but to play with real guns and dote upon the artificialities
of "electronic" reality.) -- that I have simply turned off the industry
as having no relevance at all to the kind of world I would at least like
to "think" might still be "out there somewhere."

So ... it was not with great enthusiasm that guru was persuaded to
accompany his lovely wife to the (one) local movie house last evening.
The film was something called THE RAINMAKER......

It was not what I expected......

It turned out to be a story about lawyers, insurance companies, leukemia
... and a victim of course. But most of all it was a ***magnificent
statement*** about the contemporary American society drawn within the
dimensions of those elements -- lawyers, the insurance industry, and
victims ... poor victims ... the "regular people" ... the ones who
usually can't afford lawyers ... and who sure as hell don't trust them!

The story that unfolds is too uncomfortable in its parallel to a similar
story that the guru has been living, as an EMF activist -- in the
courtrooms of Missouri -- for the past five or six years. I'd swear that
the lawyers depicted in this film who represent the insurance company ...
are the same bunch of robots I've been sitting opposite the table from ...
in the local courts of Joplin, Missouri. And if there is any difference
between the ethical and social conscience of the insurance company in THE
RAINMAKER and the utility company in Joplin ... I fail to see it......

I recommend THE RAINMAKER..... It's about another "candle lighter.".....
You'll enjoy it ... and you may learn something you will regard of
value...... THE RAINMAKER has my Academy Award vote this year......

Cheerio......
