Your comment, below, is much appreciated.....

Yes, the Mandeville study (or the group of "Quebec Hydro" studies --
as I call them --) was one of the many which rigorously applied
the TWA assumption and achieved the predictable results:  nothing.

No doubt they are now furnishing much "fuel to the fire" of denial
that there are any "effects"  ... on behalf of the industry which
sponsored them.  (Only the utility industry finds comfort in proving
a null hypothesis....)

As you know, we just have to "live" with that kind of "science" in a
world where virtually every dollar of research money comes from the 
industry that has a vested interest in the outcome of the research....

It is a sad commentary not only of our "system" for financing scientific
research which should be dedicated to pursuing the PUBLIC interest ... but
also of a scientific community that has "accommodated" to that arrangement...
(Our "free market" governments are not innocent of that arrangement,
either!!!!!.....  Remember, now!  I'm not only a capitalist but also a
REPUBLICAN!)

However, Janie, I'd prefer that you provide your comment and the
discussion that followed.....  I always prefer to have such testimony
"first hand" rather than rely on my memory.......

BTW.  In the same vein, it was refreshing to have one of the "industry"
voices, EPRI, acknowledge that one of their pet theories -- that the
"proximity to power lines problem" can be explained by traffic or
social factors -- does not stand up under examination.  Their own
research showed that the "proximity" studies best explanation of the
detected childhood leukemia link ... is still the power lines!!!!!!
I thought that one of the highlights of the San Diego meeting.......

I have written in the past that EPRI used to have a really good
reputation and do good work......  I knew them then......  Maybe again....

I think you also need to consider the results of Rosemonde Mandeville's
work, where she actually exposed animals to the equivalent of a TWA -- a
constant steady field of various levels for two years.  Remember what
she found?  Remember my question/comment from the audience? Remember her
response?  More to it than met the eye, no?
