Hans. "?.My academic background was Geology and Geophysics (Bachelor of Applied Science - 1970). Geophysical prospecting was then entering a new area as a result of micro electronics and the proliferation of computers. We were able to measure variations I the geophysical properties (electrical, chemical, seismic, magnetic, thermal, and gravitational) of the Earth on a micro-level never before attainable. We could map minute changes in these properties (geophysical anomalies) caused by different concentrations of metallic minerals below the surface. By manipulating the Earth's electro-magnetic field through the induction of an artificial field of our own, we could get a 'picture' of the Earth's composition below our feet. We knew that any existing electro-magnetic field (EMF) affects, and is affected by, any other proximal EMF. We can detect and measure these EMFs (even on a micro-level) because they constantly generate radio waves. The brain is an ultra-sophisticated EMF transceiver (transmitter/receiver). It is powered by micro currents generated by flowing electrolytes (salt solutions) in our system like blood, plasma, or sweat. Whenever electrolytes move, an EMF is produced. The brain is constantly producing, receiving and transmitting electrical pulses. Every time an electrical pulse is generated, a radio signal is concurrently produced (albeit a very weak one). These EMF pulses produce measurable 'brain waves' and trigger our endocrine glands. In fact, every bodily function is a response to a 'brain wave'. Every bodily function in turn, sends an EMF impulse (radio wave) to the brain. These 'brain waves' are affected by external EMFs of any kind. When we think, we transmit radio waves (Like tune in, Dude!). Perhaps this is why the Almighty Transceiver can read our thoughts (pray ers?). Scientists are only beginning to understand how power line induced EMFs interact with our brain-produced EMF. Can it be that the measurable, oscillating EMF caused by overhead power lines has the capability to warp our thoughts? The solution is simple, but expensive (initially). Use buried co-axial (shielded) cable. Once installed they transmit power at an efficiency rate, which quickly justifies the higher cost of installation. Maintenance costs are greatly reduced. (Case in point: The Great Quebec Ice Storm of 1998). We would have no unsightly utility poles, overhead tangle of wires, transformers, and far fewer power interruptions. But, most importantly, there is no electromagnetic leakage beyond the cable shield. We can tune in or tune out. Or can we? Only if you are wearing a Faraday cage. Victor R. Hardy, P.Eng., B.C.L.S.
