Subject: Low Frequency Active Sonar (Karow).. Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 234546 -0600 (CST) From: "Roy L. Beavers"To: emfguru -------------------------------------------------- Hi everybody: .......In recent weeks, I have received from a number of you messages warning about the following subject. I have not forwarded your messages because I am in doubt about their validity. I possess no "inside" information about the following, but I do not doubt that the high energy, high decibel active sonar described is possible...... In this age of technological wonder (and excess!!), mankind is capable of destroying every form of life on this earth -- including man, himself..... And the folly described in the below message ... suggests that 'man' is stupid enough to do just that!!! If the U.S. is capable (and willing) to pursue the following ... then our feeble efforts, here, to "light a candle about the hazards of EMF" are surely doomed.... We are too late.... The humanity we seek to save ... is beyond redemption...... (Hans -- WHY is there no identifying address information on the following message....????...... Absent such, I consider its authenticity is in doubt....) If it is true and correct ... then God save us ... and forgive us....... Hans. Subject: Low Frequency Sonar Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 09:04:43 -0800 Greetings, Please take a few minutes to read this message from me. It is long but I am seriously concerned and want to ask your help. This evening while returning from Portland to our home after being out for dinner with friends, I had occasion to be listening to a talk radio program centered out of Oregon regarding the Navy's use of Low Frequency Active Sonar in the deepest parts of the oceans, reaching out over 1000 miles in all directions. This is being addressed by the US Congress on November 22, 1999, (next week) as to whether the Navy can proceed with this program. As I understand this, this program consists of the Navy's (which has invented and is sponsoring) use of a new powerful sonar to scan the ocean bottom. The problem is that the usage's of this type of low frequency sonar is causing the death of whales and other marine life by the thousands and they refuse to accept the responsibility for it. The Navy already is using an excessively high decibel (as much as 150 decibels) sound waves in the ocean and it has the power to kill. It is documented [reported] that the Navy has been using sound for weaponry for many years for what they refer to as National Security protection. It has [reportedly] been used to blow submarines out of the water and any living creatures (including humans) that have the misfortune of being inside, are also killed with no telltale markingsthat can be discerned by autopsy. This is fact. (For any of you who have a background in the Navy, you know what I am talking about.) [......We don't know that this is fact....guru...] The concerns today are that the Navy has just recently applied for and received tentative permission to raise the decibel level (by one million) of the sonar so that it can be heard and tracked even further across the ocean floor. The overall impact is: a strength of this caliber causes implosions. It would similar to being compressed to death. The Navy had to comply with the Impact Environmental Statement law, by (requesting permission) creating a plan statement explaining the overall effect of what they are doing, to the environment, and presenting it to the people of the US by way of Congress. Until this statement is approved by Congress (the hearing is next week) they are not allowed to proceed. However, the Navy has already begun the testing even though the hearing is not for another week. This suggests strongly that the Navy fully expects to be granted congressional approval. The general public is supposed to be allowed to voice their opinions on all such matters before Congress makes a decision. This is why the law requires an Impact Environment Statement in the first place. You and me and all the rest of us, are free to offer our input before the government decides. Doctor M. Green of the Ocean Mammal Institute is a professor of Marine Biology and has been studying and tracking the movements of whales for over 15 years world wide. [.....NOT a well identified authority!!!....guru....] Doctor Green maintains that this Low Frequency Active Sonar has been damaging whales to the point of fatality. Those whales that most of us saw a while back on TV, who were beaching themselves in Australia, were trying to get away from the sonar sound waves. It was during the exact time that the Navy had begun the first test on this new sonar. [......DO we know this is true?????......guru......] The sound waves are so strong and powerful that they are killing marine life and damaging the ability of whales to be oriented, much like our inner ears are damaged when we experience broken ear drums. The whales are desperately trying to avoid these sonar sounds, to the point of allowing themselves to be beached to get away from it. Whales have incredibly sensitive hearing and can hear for miles. Can you imagine being forced to hear sounds so loud in your home, that it breaks your ear drums and you cannot get away from it? You cannot get outside and you cannot stop the sounds...you cannot turn them down and they never cease. Driving you into insanity would be a blessing. Sonar carries for miles under the ocean, and this is the exact reason the Navy is employing this new Low Frequency Sonar. But they do so with total disregard of the whale and marine population of our earth. These animals are at the mercy of the US Navy. Doctor Green thinks the Navy has been misinformed, that the input they have received on the dangers have been incorrectly reported. Please go to these sites and read what is going on. Your help is needed immediately! I implore you to write to your congressmen and women and ask them to please reconsider allowing the US Navy to continue this experiment. Once we destroy the life in our oceans, it is only a matter of time before all life as we know it will cease to exist. This we all learned in elementary school. Our food chain and our very existence depends on the marine life of our oceans. Please, help by responding. Thank you.
