.......I believe this is our first message from Portugal.....
Welcome!!..... The experience you report below is, I'd say --
A cut above the average!!...... Well Done!!

(Everybody: FYI..... Microshield is a product that seeks to reduce
the amount of radiation you receive from your cell phone..... On EMF-L,
we do not endorse -- and we do not know -- how well the various
"mitigation" devices work..... But, we believe that you should be
aware of them......)

Cheerio.....

Dear Roy,

I am writing to you to let you know the status of affairs down here in
Portugal.

For a country where mobile masts are being erected left right and centre in
people's back gardens for a fee of 2000 pounds a month(!), it is safe to say
that the whole issue of radiation and mobile phones is not very well
divulged here at all.

My company represents the MicroShield product in Portugal, and 3 weeks ago,
we started to bombard the Portuguese Press with the dangers of radiations.
The response was tremendous, giving us front page in most of the press (bear
in mind that at this stage, we are only talking about the dangers, not
MicroShield).

As a long shot, we contacted the Portuguese Ministry of Health, so they
could evaluate and comment on the information and tests that we have, as
well as the test results of Microshield. 4 days later, their reply came,
and I quote verbatim from their letter:

"In reply to your contact pertaining to the issue of Radiation/Microshield
Product, and further to our conversations, we would like to inform you that
we do not see anything to oppose the diffusion of the above mentioned
product in Portugal.

Our conclusion is based on the analysis of all the documentation and studies
that you sent to us, and we find in your favour, after an extremely thorough
technical and scientific study of the materials supplied.

In addition, we would like to inform you that this Board, taking into
account the experimental studies relating to the effect of radiations on
living organisms, and the lack of conclusive answers to these issues, has
always, as a matter of precaution, had two stances:

*	Where there is doubt about the level of risk involved, one should
adopt a more conservative approach that consists of minimizing this risk,
even if it means resorting to "zero option"
*	Adopt the ALARA principle, under which, if there is a technological
alternative, exposition to radiation must be as low as possible.

To conclude, we would like to say that when it comes to Health Protection,
prevention constitutes the best policy especially when it comes to
cost/advantages.

Best regards,

Dr Delia Gazzo
By Delegation to the Ministry of Health

Needless to say that we became very excited.

Yesterday (29th) we held a Press Conference at the Lisbon Le Meridien Hotel,
talking about Radiation/Microshield. Professor Olle Johansson (Karolinksa
Institute) gave a very effective talk on the above as did John Simpson from
Microshield Industries PLC.
When you add the above mentioned letter, with the press releases culminating
in the conference, the result was a huge success. Three (out of four)
television stations were present and did an extensive coverage. One of them
even dedicated the whole day to the issue! Today the press are reporting
the story as planned.

Finally Portugal is starting to wake up the (one of the many) problem
regarding EMF/Radiation!

Best regards,

Nuno Feist
