The symposium volume WIRELESS PHONES AND HEALTH II: STATE OF THE SCIENCE has
now been published by Kluwer Academic Publishers.  I believe it is priced at
$150 US.

This book contains presentations made at the symposium held June, 1999, in
Long Beach, California, USA.  Dr. George Carlo is the editor of this book and
WTR sponsored the symposium.  The book mostly reports on experimental
investigations from around the world, funded by money from the Cellular
Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA).  But there is one paper in
here reporting on research that was NOT funded by CTIA money!

Chapter 4 of this book contains a paper I have written in which I present a
theoretical basis for determination of an exposure metric for the
electromagnetic field, for health purposes.  In fact, there are actually TWO
exposure metrics, as I demonstrate in this paper!  One is for the thermal
hazard and the other is for the nonthermal hazard.  In determining exposure,
it is important to use the metric that is appropriate to the health hazard of
interest.

Cancer is a nonthermal health hazard, so it is appropriate to use the
nonthermal exposure metric in cancer studies.  This has never been done, of
course, because this was not previously understood by researchers.  (I think
this is why there has been so much confusion, historically, over the question
of whether there is a cancer hazard from exposure to microwave radiation, or
not.  There is, but "experts" in the past have used a thermal exposure metric
to quantify exposure, which is scientifically incorrect; therefore results of
multiple studies were inconsistent and could not be interpreted in a way that
made sense.  So the scientists said there was no proof of a cancer hazard.)

People who are fighting cellular/mobile phone base stations, or radio or TV
transmitters, may find this paper helpful, since it shows how erroneous and
unscientific the "standard" methods of evaluating EMF health hazards are, and
how inadequate existing exposure standards are.
